Russia in WWI

• Russia couldn’t afford to feed their army and their people, so the people started a Revolution to overthrow their government.
• The people installed a Communist government in the “October Revolution”
• They made a treaty with Germany and left WWI, leaving the eastern front wide open now.
• This will be important later on in the year during WWII

End of WWI

• Treaty of Versailles
• Made Germany accept full responsibility for the war
• Made them pay billions in reparations
• Took away military and weapons
• Took away land and colonies
• Embarrassed Germany and they wanted revenge

1920’s and The Great Depression

• 1920’s were all about partying and spending money – buying all the new inventions and clothes
• Women felt more liberated and became “flappers” also got the right to vote
• Prohibition went in to affect and lasted for 13 years before it was repealed
• Led to lots of illegal drinking and the creation of organized crime like Al Capone
