On our fourth week of work study, initially we were supposed to be set up at Trap Pond but due to the rain forecasted, we ended up meeting at Del-Tech. At Del-Tech we all individually took on Projects from Trello that still needed to be completed. These projects consisted of :

  • Working on completing more pages for the activity book.
  • Putting the correct information into folders for each mark around the trail.
  • Emailing NRWC board members regarding volunteer hours.
  • Emailing the US representative for Delaware, the Governor of Delaware, and the Lieutenant Governor to let them know what we’ve been doing, invite them to our banquet, and maybe to meet up with them on Governor’s Day at the state fair.
  • Prepare plastic container cuts for repurposed bird feeders.
  • Finalizing the certificates from the coloring contest for winners and participants.
  • Went through the old resources of the archive sand found modern connections and links to those education resources.
  • Creating an online store for NRWC.
  • Creating informative signs that would appear on the trail about the history of aspects of the trail.
  • Working on a community book read with notes.
  • Organizing a plan for a nature journal for the community, as well as resources for local schools.

Using Trello, we were able to efficiently communicate to each other about who was working on what and what projects were left in the Google Drive folder.

Near one o’clock, we had a small meeting to assess what has been done and what needs to be done in order to maximize productivity, as well as to move forward on our soon to be published trail activity book for youth.

Some students worked on emailing NRWC board members, while others used the time to create designs for the online store, the weekly slides, and the volunteer hour sheet.

The following day, the weather had cleared up and so a group of UB students (Daphny, Meilyn, and Fatma) decided to go outside and use apps such as iMerlin to identify a wide variety of plants and even trees.

Here are a few images of the samplings! These samplings are beneficial to our whole group so that we may be aware of what we are handling out at the trail.

Through this work, we did learn on what it takes to work for an organization dedicated to the awareness and preservation of the environment, as well as how to work with others as a team to get the technical side of the conservancy done. These projects ensures the spread of awareness for the conservancy and as a whole, the conservancy of nature for the following generations.
