FASTPATH
An Alpha-numerical navigation system for first responders
-Potential for use in any large structure, but for our purposes the
system is used in Scott County Schools
-Teaches the method, NOT the building. In other words,
it will help first responders navigate any structure in which the
system is installed and where they may render assistance, even
in other counties, as long as information is provided to them.
-Originally designed for active shooter response, but quickly
realized as an effective tool for Fire and EMS.
FASTPATH: What to know
As a member of the staff/faculty at any school, and to make the most effective use of FastPath:
-Know your Hallway number
-Know your Room number
-If you have an exterior window with a number on it, know that number or at least be prepared to provide it to 911
-CALL 911, give school, hallway, room number and nature of
emergency (medical, fire, intruder/armed subject)
-STAY ON THE LINE WITH DISPATCH AS LONG AS POSSIBLE IF IT IS AN ACTIVE SHOOTER.
FASTPATH: What to do
-In the event of a medical emergency or fire related emergency, follow instructi0ns as given by 911 dispatcher:
-You may be asked to meet the first responders at a particular door
(may have to send an aide or student)
-You will be asked for updates on the event
-In the event of a police related emergency:
-Stay on line as long as it is safe to do so, providing updates and location(s) of any fighting (if involving weapons) intruder or active shooter
-Follow your schools emergency protocols: Run (get out if safe), Hide (if you cannot get out), Fight the shooter as a last resort when your life is in immediate danger.
FASTPATH: Using the signs
$ = STAIRS
“B” or a # as a superscript (to the left) indicates the floor level
-”B” basement, “2” for second floor, “3” for 3rd, etc.
“E” = ELEVATOR
-an arrow(s) will indicate available directions of travel
***Centered number is the Hallway you are in***
Numbers at perimeter are Hallways in your vicinity. The placement indicates the direction the hallway is in, but not how far away.
-A number followed immediately by a capital letter indicates a “spur” hallway or a dead end hallway (i.e. one that does not connect to another major hallway even if it leads outside)
