Our Goals for the Year

  • To develop within your child a sense of community and a love of learning.
  • To assist your child to take risks and learn to accept that mistakes are a valuable part of learning.

Class Expectations

  • We both believe in positive reinforcement and have set the classroom up around this.
  • Students know what is expected within the class and have developed a set of class expectations to guide them.
  • Students will be supported to take responsibility for their learning and their own behaviour.
  • We create a supportive space for the children to reflect on the impact of their behaviour on others.

Gathering Time

  • Doors will open at 8:30 am. If they are not open at this time it may be that we are in a meeting. Please remind your child not to open the door. This is a chance for your child to be preparing themselves for the day.
  • We are encouraging students to be independent learners and this begins with preparing themselves for the day.
  • The bell to start classes will be rung at 8:40am. If your child arrives late, please get them to sign into the front office.

Independent Learners

  • We are working to help your child become an independent learner, this helps to build confidence and resilience within your child.
  • Learning Intentions and Success Criteria will be displayed during our lessons so the students have clarity on how to be successful and on how to challenge themselves to keep improving.
  • These are displayed so that the students know what is being learnt and an example of what the learning/activity should look like.

The Classroom Space

  • Our Year 3 classrooms look a little different to the standard set up.
  • 1. Both classrooms offer a safe and comfortable learning environment.
  • 2. We are respectful of one another's educational programs and we ensure that our Literacy and Numeracy blocks are aligned.  This is to maximise the learning opportunities for the children.

  • Week 3/4 of Term 2 2022.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about this, please let us know.
  • We will keep this process very low key.
  • We will be giving kids exposure to past tests – not to teach to the test but to help familiarise them with the kinds of questions and to help build confidence.

Homework

  • OLC has now got a new homework policy. This policy has taken into account a teacher survey, current literature around homework and discussions with CEWA consultants.
  • As from week 4 of this term the only two focuses for homework will be Reading and Times Tables.
  • The students in Year 3 will be asked to read and log their reading every night for 15-20 minutes.
  • There will be a selection of times tables to work on with the support of technology as digital practice will be encouraged.
  • Every week the blog for each class will highlight the homework and the classroom teacher will be checking on the students progress fortnightly.
