ProcellaCOR EC Treatment Has Had A Dramatic Impact on EWM�

• Treated the Inlet Bay and Narrows on June 5
• EWM plants cannot be found within the treatment zone
• EWM has also disappeared from many of the adjoining areas
• Some plants regrowing in the shallows in Legoy’s Bay
• Expect EWM regrowth in areas farthest from treatment zones
• Generating GPS data to help quantify the range of impact
• Asked Aqualogic to find other outlets for their team for a few weeks as we could not keep them productive on the upper lake/lower lake

Still A Number Of Areas With EWM Growth�

• Many areas were outside the reach of the ProcellaCOR
• Inlet Creek, Lower lake, and maybe Grass Island, Legoy’s Bay, Campground Bay
• We are carefully monitoring the areas outside the treatment zones to see if the EWM impact was temporary or permanent
• Significant efforts by Aqualogic and our volunteers on the lower lake – very productive!
• Need to maintain strong efforts this summer to make sure EWM population reductions are long lasting
• Managing the Inlet Creek is critical!

Improving The Way We Work�

• Invasives Committee meeting every few weeks to review status and plan actions

• Aqualogic assigned a Paradox Ambassador
• On the lake every day
• Frequent dialogue with Nancy Girling – what she is seeing and where to dive next

​

• Increased detail in communications – within committee and with volunteers

​

• Use of the app by volunteers and Aqualogic is the new norm

Not Out Of The Woods Yet�

• Need for organized scouting and reporting of findings

​

• Continue to use Aqualogic (3 more weeks) – Lower Lake, problem areas in upper lake, emerging hot spots, September

​

• Volunteer divers and snorkelers and muckers to address what we find

​

• Generating GPS data to pinpoint areas of growth

​

• Develop report for use with state agencies and other lake association

Experience Shows That Local Resources Managing Sections of Shoreline Is Most Effective

• The Invasives Committee has learned a lot during our fight with EWM
• We slowed the expansion of the EWM in 2008 -2020 but know much more now
• Key learning is that the presence of an active owner managing a section of lake shore is the most effective way to keep EWM growth under control
• Aqualogic is most effective where EWM density is higher
• Long term control after this EWM population reset will require more shoreline section owners going forward

Paradox Lake Water �Quality Continues To Be Excellent

• Long term trends continue

• Lake continues to have the NYS highest rating for water quality – AA

• Lake continues to become clearer and cleaner

​

• Road salt influence rating continues to be rated Low

• Additional testing locations (and cost support) from APIPP partnership

Paradox Lake Continues To Be A Great Home For Loons

​

• 1 additional pair of nesting loons on the lake this year – 4 total

​

• Steady water level in late May – June critical to successful breeding

​

• All nesting pairs hatched chicks!

​

• Paradox following the ADK trend of increasing # of loon nests

​

PLA Activities Benefit Everyone Using Paradox Lake

• Ideally the PLA activities would be supported by all lake users
• Broader membership allows for PLA communication to more stakeholders
• Fighting aquatic invasives for the long term requires a lot of volunteer hours
