Principle 1 Time Management

  1. Arrive at the same time each day (Program TBD)
  2. Write a daily agenda either the evening before (recommended) or upon arrival.
  3. Base your agenda off the roles you have. Ex. If you are the cook, preparing food to be cooked for breakfast and lunch should be known in advance and ready to cook.
  4. Outside of emergencies preparation for your duties in your additional roles should be in progress 15 minutes in advance for a smooth transition for your and your team.

Principle 2 Delegate

Distinguish between expectations and requirements—these are not the same. Let go of things that can wait.

Train your teachers to be better than you. Identify staff members’ strengths and share responsibilities with them wisely.

Principle 3Set Smaller Short-Term Goals When Needed

Identify what can be done today and what will be done another day. Modify as needed.

Be sure to not repeat putting the long-term goals off as they will never be completed.

Principle 4Prioritize Self-Care

BURN-OUT will take you OUT!

Brisk walk in/around the building or parking lot.

Brain break to breath in fresh air.

Go to lunch( car, restaurant, staff lounge)

Carve out time in your schedule so you can be recharged and refreshed before you tackle your work again.

It’s just as important to pencil in “go to the gym” or “take a five-minute music break” on your to-do list as “call the licensor” and “write the annual report.”

You might feel guilty taking time to do something for yourself, but balancing work with your personal well-being and having a bit of leisure time in your waking hours is essential to managing stress and avoiding burnout.

When you take care of yourself, you are better able to take care of others.

Principle 5 Reflect and Grow

Four Key Questions as a Leader:

What worked today?

What did not work today?

What could have been better?

What role did I play in each of these?

Continue professional development for YOU away from your teachers and staff. As you serve in multiple roles think about what you want to improve in a particular role or roles you have?

Journal your thoughts on each daily.

Principle 6Network with Other Directors

Join Community Groups in Professional Organizations

THIS IS ONE OF THEM!

Share ideas for success!

Each of you have the same goal in mind but be open to learn new ideas from others!

Principle 7 Be Intentional in Your Daily Decisions Based on your Multiple Roles

  1. Be strategic, and always know the rationale behind the what, why, when, and how of what you do. It is easy to lose sight of the long view when you are mired in day-to-day tasks.

  • Taking a step back from details and pausing to reflect on larger picture will help your decisions and actions be more purposeful.
  1. Seek feedback on how you can serve your team better.
  2. Reflect on performance perhaps from the owner, board of directors, or survey results.
  3. Explore new techniques
  4. Set personal goals
  5. Be open to modify to the changes.

AGENDA ACTIVITY

Take 5 minutes to create an agenda for tomorrow. Base this on the roles you have in your center.

SHARE out and explain why this serves you best.
