1.NOUN

What is noun?

Ans- A noun is the name of a person, place ,animal or thing.

Eg-(1) Sonal is my friend.

Sonal is my friend. (Person)

2.PRONOUN

What is pronoun?

Ans- A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun.

Eg- You gave me the key yourself.

You gave me the key yourself.

3.VERB

A verb tells us what a person or thing does, is or has.

Verbs are used to show what a person or thing is ‘doing’, ‘being’ or ‘possessing’.

Verbs are also called ‘action words’ or ‘doing words’.

Eg-(1)Mary Kom won the boxing.

Mary Kom won the boxing. (Doing)

Eg-(2) Susan is intelligent.

4. ADJECTIVE

An adjective describes a noun.

It is also called a ‘describing word’.

Adjectives tell us what kind of , how many/how much, what colour etc., about a noun.

Eg-(1) The old farmer was ploughing his field with the help of his two oxen.

The old farmer was ploughing his field

with the help of his two oxen.

5.ADVERB

An adverb is a word that adds to the meaning of the verb.

Eg-(1)Jaya played the harmonium beautifully.

Jaya played the harmonium beautifully. (Played how)

6. PREPOSITION

A preposition is a word that shows the relation between a noun or a pronoun and some other word/words in a sentence.

Eg-(1)The waiter puts the plate on the table.

The waiter puts the plate on the table.

(the relation between the plate

7. CONJUNCTION

A conjunction is used to join two words, group of words or sentences.

Eg-(1)The chief guest spoke loudly and

clearly.

8. INTERJECTION

An interjection is a word or a small group of words we use to express an emotion (feeling).

We usually put an exclamation mark (!) after an interjection.

Eg-(1) Oh! That’s beautiful.

Articles are used to refer to nouns. They are placed before nouns and can be used to refer to a particular person,place,animal or thing or to nouns in general.
