The Goals

are designed to directly impact what students know and can do, guiding our focus toward tangible, measurable academic outcomes.

Early Literacy: The percentage of 3rd graders who are proficient in ELA will increase from 35% in August 2024 to 60% by August 2030.

Math Proficiency: The percentage of first time test takers who are proficient in Algebra 1 will increase from 26% in August 2024 to 50% by August 2030.

College Readiness: The % of graduating cohort who meet at least one college ready indicator — ACT/SAT College Ready, Honors Diploma, AP/IB College Ready, or 12+ college credits — will increase from 8.2% in August 2024 to 25% by August 2030.

Safety & Well-Being: The CEO shall not fail to promote safety within CMSD facilities, along with physical and mental well-being for all students.

Opportunity & Access: The CEO shall not implement an academic program that fails to provide access to artistic, athletic, and career preparation opportunities for all students.

Community Engagement: The CEO shall not make significant changes to the operation of the district without meaningful ways for the community to provide input.

School Day

Instructional Day – 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Students will have a formal class schedule that they must follow.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: Synchronous learning (live classes) for at least 175 minutes per day; asynchronous learning (independent, one-on-one, or small group work) for 150 minutes per day.
Monday: Class Meetings at 8:00am, which is REQUIRED, and then go to class. Day includes family engagement, independent learning, tutoring, office hours, small group instruction, etc. Students stay online completing work until 2:30pm.

Attendance Matters – Success Starts with Showing Up

Strong attendance early in the year creates a foundation for success in reading, math, and other core subjects

Attendance is measured in hours – not days.

Late arrivals, early departures and missed class periods contribute to total instructional hours lost.

Chronic Absenteeism – missing 10% or more of the total instructional hours in a school year for any reason, excused or unexcused.

Every lesson matters. Missing school means missing valuable learning opportunities.

Call the school every day your child is absent and report the reason.

Attendance Requirements

Students are required to attend school 180 days per year. Regular attendance is vital for student success. ALL live classes must be attended each day.

Parent/Guardians are required to call the school (838-7250) in the morning, by 10:00am, if their child will be absent or tardy.

Classwork missed during unexcused absences may not be able to be made up by the student.
Appointments should be made before or after school hours whenever possible. Students are expected to report to class before and return to class after all appointments.

67% of students last year were chronically absent!

Attendance Competition for September

The class with the best attendance will earn a prize mailed home and extra PBIS points.
Students with the best attendance will win a gift card to Walmart.
In October, the students with the best attendance and the most improved attendance will win a gift card.

Engagement Expectations

Students MUST be logged in and attending class and completing work for 6 hours each school day, from 8:00am until 2:30pm.

Cameras must be on at all times. If the camera is not able to be on the following expectations are in place:

Parent/Guardians must communicate with the classroom teacher the reasons.

Permissible reasons include, but are not limited to, device issues, medical and mental health reasons, and special education accommodations.

Please provide an environment that is suitable for learning. Avoid loud, distracting locations and bedrooms and cars if possible.

Classwork for unexcused absence may not be able to be made up by students.

Teachers will be using the CMSD electronic gradebook and will update assignment grades in each quarter's 3rd, 6th, and final weeks (9th week) to ensure you are always informed of your scholar's progress.
You can see student grades and assignments, attendance and class schedules.

To inform parents/caregivers of their rights and roles within their scholar's school building such as:

Being included in decision making opportunities and committees regarding school improvement plans
Participating in school-based parent organizations (SPO/PAC/PTO, etc.)
Providing input on how Title IA Family Engagement funds are spent to support meaningful engagement activities which advance student achievement
Ensuring that the school engages in two-way communication with parents to strengthen family/school partnerships
Removing barriers to participation (time of day, childcare, translation services, accommodations for special needs, transportation, etc.)

Parents have the right to know about the teaching qualifications of their child's classroom teacher in a school receiving Title IA funds. You can request this information from your principal.

Notification if your child is being taught for 4 or more weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified.
Whether the teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived.
Whether the teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of certification.
Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is committed to strong parent/school partnerships and the development of parent leaders through parent organizations in our schools.
NEW this year, every school will have a consistent parent group that meets regularly.
Schools can choose to have a (SPO) School Parent Organization or (PAC) Parent Advisory Committee which give voice to parent concerns, ideas and engagement in authentic and meaningful ways.
