Are You Ready for Level 3?

  • Most students take Level 2 for two or three terms.
  • You are ready for Level 3 when
    • You show you are a good student. You come to class and you do your homework.
    • You pass your tests and quizzes with 70% (C-) or higher.
    • You understand instructions when I speak.
    • You understand instructions when you read.
    • I understand you when you speak and write. Your partner understands you when you speak. (Most of the time)
    • You have strong grammar and vocabulary for our topics. You write with a capital letter and a period. You put a space between words.
    • You can understand specific information when you are listening. You don’t need to understand everything.
    • Heather decides when you are ready. We can talk about it.

Friday, December 5th: Unit 8 Test. Last day to return PCC books

Monday, December 8th: Last Day of class. Bring food or drink to share. We meet from 9-11.

Monday, January 5th: First Day of winter term

I will register you for your winter class. In December, pay for your class or fill out the waiver for a free class if you cannot pay.

Basic Ingredients of a strong paragraph:

  1. Begin with a topic sentence. (Tell what the paragraph will be about.)
  2. Detail #1 (on the topic and interesting)
  3. Detail #2 (on the topic; maybe begin with a transition word.)
  4. Detail #3 (also on the topic and interesting; use a different transition word.)
  5. End with a conclusion sentence. (“Wrap up” the paragraph.)

Format of a good paragraph:

1. Write about the topic.

2. → Indent your first sentence. (Tab key)

3. Begin each sentence with a CAPITAL letter.

4. Each sentence needs a subject and a verb.

5. Put a period at the end of each sentence.

6. Make sure each sentence follows the last sentence. (Don’t put your

sentences in a list.)

7. Write a short title at the top in the middle of the page.

8. Please write double-spaced. Skip a line.
