The truths in the Doctrine and Covenants can prepare me to do God’s work
SCRIPTURE
1 Hearken, O ye people of my church, saith the Lord your God, and hear the word of the Lord concerning you—
2 The Lord who shall suddenly come to his temple; the Lord who shall come down upon the world with a curse to judgment; yea, upon all the nations that forget God, and upon all the ungodly among you.
3 For he shall make bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of their God.
4 Wherefore, prepare ye, prepare ye, O my people; sanctify yourselves; gather ye together, O ye people of my church, upon the land of Zion, all you that have not been commanded to tarry.
- Doctrine and Covenants 133:1-4
The truths in the Doctrine and Covenants can prepare me to do God’s work
Elaine S. Dalton
Former Member of the Young Women General Presidency
[J]ust as Joseph Smith had an important part to play in this great and marvelous work, we too have an important part to play in these latter days… How did he receive comfort and guidance? He studied the scriptures, pondered their promises, and then “came to the determination to ‘ask of God.’” The answer he received that beautiful spring day changed his life and direction…Joseph keenly realized his imperfections and weaknesses. Again—he prayed. In response to this prayer, he was visited by the angel Moroni. Joseph recounted: “He called me by name” and said “that God had a work for me to do.” As we pray, the Lord will guide and prepare us to do our part.

We’ll Bring the World His Truth(Children’s Songbook #172)
MUSIC
1. We have been born, as Nephi of old,
To goodly parents who love the Lord.
We have been taught, and we understand,
That we must do as the Lord commands.
2. We have been saved for these latter days
To build the kingdom in righteous ways.
We hear the words our prophet declares:
“Let each who’s worthy go forth and share.”
3. We know his plan, and we will prepare,
Increase our knowledge through study and prayer.
Daily we’ll learn until we are called
To take the gospel to all the world.

Chorus:
We are as the army of Helaman.
We have been taught in our youth.
And we will be the Lord’s missionaries
To bring the world his truth

The Lord wants me to be clean
The Lord wants me to be clean
SCRIPTURE
5 Go ye out from Babylon. Be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord.
7 Yea, verily I say unto you again, the time has come when the voice of the Lord is unto you: Go ye out of Babylon; gather ye out from among the nations, from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
14 Go ye out from among the nations, even from Babylon, from the midst of wickedness, which is spiritual Babylon.
- Doctrine and Covenants 133:5, 7, 14
The Lord wants me to be clean
Gordon B. Hinckley
President of the Church
1995 - 2008
Be clean in body…Be clean in language. Be clean in dress and manner…Be clean in mind, and then you will have greater control over your bodies. It was said of old, “As [a man] thinketh in his heart, so is he”. Unclean thoughts lead to unclean acts…Turn your back on it. Shun it. I know that is easy to say, and difficult to do. But each time that you do so, it will be so much the easier the next time.
…[I]f we are clean in mind and body, the time will come when we can stand confidently before the Lord…and sa[y], “I am clean.” There will be a feeling of confidence and there will also be smiles of approval. Said the Lord, “Let all things be done in cleanliness before me”… He expects His people to be clean from the sins of the world. If any here have been guilty of any of these, let us repent forthwith. Confess to the Lord…He will help you. There can be repentance and there can be forgiveness.
- President Gordon B. Hinckley, “‘Be Ye Clean’,”General Conference, April 1996
The Lord Gave Me a Temple(Children’s Songbook #153)
MUSIC
1. The Lord gave me a temple to live within on earth.
Once in Heaven I was spirit, but I left my home at birth.
I’ll make my temple brighter; I’ll keep my spirit free.
My body is the temple my Father gave to me.
2. If I keep my body clean and pure and habit-free,
I may in Father’s temple claim blessings promised me.
On resurrection morning, I’ll take my body bright
And in celestial glory forever live in light.

"Prepare Ye for the Coming of the Bridegroom"
"Prepare Ye for the Coming of the Bridegroom"
SCRIPTURE
10 Yea, let the cry go forth among all people: Awake and arise and go forth to meet the Bridegroom; behold and lo, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Prepare yourselves for the great day of the Lord.
11 Watch, therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour.
17 For behold, the Lord God hath sent forth the angel crying through the midst of heaven, saying: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight, for the hour of his coming is nigh—
- Doctrine and Covenants 133:10-11, 17
"Prepare Ye for the Coming of the Bridegroom"
Dallin H. Oaks
Of the First Presidency
While we are powerless to alter the fact of the Second Coming and unable to know its exact time, we can accelerate our own preparation and try to influence the preparation of those around us…
What if the day of His coming were tomorrow? If we knew that we would meet the Lord tomorrow—through our premature death or through His unexpected coming—what would we do today? What confessions would we make? What practices would we discontinue? What accounts would we settle? What forgivenesses would we extend? What testimonies would we bear? If we would do those things then, why not now? Why not seek peace while peace can be obtained? If our lamps of preparation are drawn down, let us start immediately to replenish them.
- President Dallin H. Oaks, “Preparation for the Second Coming,”General Conference, April 2004
When He Comes Again(Children’s Songbook #82)
MUSIC
1. I wonder, when he comes again,
Will herald angels sing?
Will earth be white with drifted snow,
Or will the world know spring?
I wonder if one star will shine
Far brighter than the rest;
Will daylight stay the
whole night through?
Will songbirds leave their nests?
I’m sure he’ll call his little ones
Together ’round his knee,
Because he said in days gone by,
“Suffer them to come to me.”
2. I wonder, when he comes again,
Will I be ready there
To look upon his loving face
And join with him in prayer?
Each day I’ll try to do his will
And let my light so shine
That others seeing me may seek
For greater light divine.
Then, when that blessed day is here,
He’ll love me and he’ll say,
“You’ve served me well,
my little child;
Come unto my arms to stay.”

OPTIONAL 3rd VERSE:
3. I wonder, when he comes again,
Will all the nations bring
Their little children to his arms
To hear the angels sing?
And as they hear his loving voice
And seek his outstretched hand
Will children of the world rejoice
To finally understand
That only as we do his will
Can happiness increase
That love, alone, can make this world
A haven of his peace

The Second Coming will be joyful for the righteous
SCRIPTURE
25 And the Lord, even the Savior, shall stand in the midst of his people, and shall reign over all flesh.
32 And there shall they fall down and be crowned with glory, even in Zion, by the hands of the servants of the Lord, even the children of Ephraim.
33 And they shall be filled with songs of everlasting joy.
56 And the graves of the saints shall be opened; and they shall come forth and stand on the right hand of the Lamb, when he shall stand upon Mount Zion, and upon the holy city, the New Jerusalem; and they shall sing the song of the Lamb, day and night forever and ever.

The Second Coming will be joyful for the righteous
Christoffel Golden Jr.
Of the Seventy
For those who have eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to feel, more than ever before we are required to confront the reality that we are getting ever closer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. True, great difficulties yet await those on the earth at His return, but in this regard, the faithful need not fear…“The Second Coming will be a fearful, mournful time for the wicked, but it will be a day of peace for the righteous…”
…[T]oday’s prophet of the Lord to the world, President Russell M. Nelson, has given us this recent inspiring counsel: “The gospel of Jesus Christ...is a message of joy! Our spirits rejoice with every small step forward we take.”…I conclude my remarks with a truly inspiring prophetic declaration from the Prophet Joseph Smith, given near the end of his ministry as he looked forward to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ: “…Let your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad.”

Jesus Christ is loving and kind
Jesus Christ is loving and kind
SCRIPTURE
52 And now the year of my redeemed is come; and they shall mention the loving kindness of their Lord, and all that he has bestowed upon them according to his goodness, and according to his loving kindness, forever and ever.
53 In all their afflictions he was afflicted. And the angel of his presence saved them; and in his love, and in his pity, he redeemed them, and bore them, and carried them all the days of old;
- Doctrine and Covenants 133:52-53
Jesus Christ is loving and kind
Joseph B. Wirthlin
Former Member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Jesus, our Savior, was the epitome of kindness and compassion. He healed the sick. He spent much of His time ministering to the one or many. He spoke compassionately to the Samaritan woman who was looked down upon by many. He instructed His disciples to allow the little children to come unto Him. He was kind to all who had sinned, condemning only the sin, not the sinner. He kindly allowed thousands of Nephites to come forward and feel the nail prints in His hands and feet. Yet His greatest act of kindness was found in His atoning sacrifice, thus freeing all from the effects of death, and all from the effects of sin, on conditions of repentance…
May we be models of kindness. May we ever live up to the words of the Savior: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
- Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, “The Virtue of Kindness,”General Conference, April 2005

The Lord wants me to obey the law
The Lord wants me to obey the law
SCRIPTURE
1 We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society.
2 We believe that no government can exist in peace, except such laws are framed and held inviolate as will secure to each individual the free exercise of conscience, the right and control of property, and the protection of life.
7 We believe that rulers, states, and governments have a right, and are bound to enact laws for the protection of all citizens in the free exercise of their religious belief; but we do not believe that they have a right in justice to deprive citizens of this privilege, or proscribe them in their opinions, so long as a regard and reverence are shown to the laws and such religious opinions do not justify sedition nor conspiracy.
- Doctrine and Covenants 134:1-2, 7
The Lord wants me to obey the law
L. Tom Perry
Former Member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
All members of the Church should be committed to obeying and honoring the laws of the land in which they live. We should be exemplary in our obedience to the governments that govern us…Continuing after the Savior’s ministry, the Apostles urged the Saints to be orderly and law-abiding. Writing to Titus, Paul declared, “Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work”.
As Church members, we live under the banner of many different flags...We should be familiar with the history, heritage, and laws of the lands that govern us. In those countries that allow us the right to participate in the affairs of government, we should use our free agency and be actively engaged in supporting and defending the principles of truth, right, and freedom.
- Elder L. Tom Perry, “‘A Meaningful Celebration’,”General Conference, October 1987
