Walt use a number of ways to solve multiplication problems

____________________________

Room 10 are interested in seeing how many steps students walk in an average school day. Students in room 10 estimate that an average student would walk 252 steps in an hour. If 6 students take this number of steps, how many steps would these 6 students take in an hour (in total)?

Think about how you could use:- Place Value- Tidy numbers- Doubling/ Halving/ Tripling

Walt use exponents.

____________________________

52 = 5 squared = 5x5

5 squared means 5x5. The big number could represent how many of something you have in a group. The small number tells you the number of times you need to times the number by itself.

So 53 = 5 cubed = 5x5x5

58 = 5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5

Problem: Rewrite 72 as a multiplication question, then solve it.
