JAG Overview

  • JAG Nebraska was created in 2019 as a partnership between NE’s Dept of Labor and HHS
  • JAG NE program in at least 34 middle and high schools across Nebraska.
  • Supported by Governor Pillen with $10 million of state funding in Spring 2023

JAG Outcomes

  • 99% of JAG students in Nebraska graduated from HS in 2021-22.
  • 86% of students are employed in full-part time positions while attending postsecondary schools.
  • 50% of JAG students are less likely to be at risk for poverty

What is JAG?

  • Workforce Development program where students:
    • Learn between 37 and 87 core competencies identified by business and industry.
    • Build relationships with employers
    • Volunteer with community organizations
    • Experience opportunities to visit a variety of employers, business & industries.
    • Receive apprenticeship opportunities to expand skills.

KPS Implementation

    • Program will be implemented at HACS–could expand
    • We look to have between 35-55 students to participate.
    • Daily classes with JAG instructor.
    • JAG Chapter will attend monthly field trips to industry.
    • JAG Chapter will attend potential state and national conferences.
    • Creates a targeted career development program at the Arram Center.

Partnership with United Way

  • JAG Nebraska is managed through the United Way of the Midlands in conjunction with the local Kearney United Way.
  • JAG Supervisor is hired by UW of Midlands and evaluated by both their leadership and KPS Administration.
  • All costs for the program is paid for by the state for the first two years with a $10,000 commitment in Year 3 from KPS.
