HOW CAN YOU BAND ONLINE?

You CAN:

  • Play Along w/ Leader
  • Call and Response w/ Leader
  • Individual Sampling (down the line)
  • YouTube (change speed) or publisher recordings for “run throughs”
  • Collaborative section recording + peer assessments
    • Flipgrid (peer review will help alleviate too much grading on your part) or Upbeat

31

HOW CAN YOU BAND ONLINE?

You CAN:

  • Recording reflection, analysis and critique
  • Students can still collaborate together online to improve their musical skills
  • Breakout rooms...teach them how to teach one another and give them clear targets for what to work on (smaller is better)

32

ideas we are using

Engagement: stimulus variation (no sage on stage), involve student voices, scan screens for involvement, ask for volunteers ahead of time, wait time is longer and will feel awkward. We use the chat and react buttons A LOT to engage student feedback in class

Connection: Use private messages (as allowed) to check in with students. I find I have to be a bit larger than life (like on TV) to keep attention

Practice: 9th graders (my beginners)...teach them how to be in your band room, just like in class!
