GLAMS!!!

Ile is not a proficient magic/aether user, and canonically is only WAR/MCH, so technically they wear all these outfits on a more casual basis. They like to wear earthy tones and comfortable clothes, primed for crafting and gathering. He just so happens to also carry a glock while wearing these clothes.

Personality

  • Has a very calm demeanour
    • easygoing and well-tempered!
    • rises from a sense of self-assuredness - they’re genuinely unfazed by nearly anything
  • Sweet and kind-hearted
    • it’s habitual for him to help other people, and out of the goodness of their heart
  • More of a listener than a talker
    • a quiet person who’s happy to stay in the background doing their own things

What he’s like as an adventurer

  • Crafter And Gatherer First, Adventurer Second
    • Only really an adventurer by virtue of their helpful tendencies!
    • Ile loves the natural world and making things with their own hands.
    • In a way, they craft and gather to celebrate life
    • Their symbiotic relationship to nature is very important to them
  • A fearsome person in the heat of battle

(Physical) fighting is very much a part of Dotharli life. For that reason, Ile is learned and skilled in the art of “Battling” (so to speak).

Alike to Sadu, Ile is very used to it - it’s a part of their way of life. But perhaps unlike Sadu, Ile nonchalantly views it as a *mundane* regular aspect of his life. He doesn’t experience glee from fighting, but nor are they fundamentally opposed to it. It’s just there and is a natural thing to do sometimes.

As a result, his no fuss, blasé attitude towards physical violence can be scary in itself.

The Dotharl, Reincarnation, Courage & Love

  • The Dotharl believe in reincarnation: if one of their kin is valiant and brave, they will be reborn into the tribe within a year of their death -- granted there exists a vessel they can be born into.
    • They describe bravery as “a soul burning bright” !
  • It lines up with their emphasis on character over all else:

The Dotharl, Reincarnation, Courage & Love

  • To me, the idea of valuing *qualities* (as opposed to achievements or results) like bravery, above all else, implies a sincere and genuine love of people and their intrinsic worth.
  • While the game tends to focus on bravery in the context of physical fighting, I interpret the Dotharl as embracing courage in a holistic way. For the soul is the soul, and the flesh is the flesh! Anyone can be a brave warrior within their means, no matter what gender, age, condition, illness, or disability they might possess.
  • I think the fact that the Dotharl are so confident that their warriors will be reborn (if not for other factors) show how much they love each other. It’s a beautiful thing to truly and fully recognise that another person is doing their best.

The Dotharl, Reincarnation, Courage & Love

  • By virtue of being in a cycle of reincarnation, the Dotharl are, in some sense, beholden to their past selves. For instance:
    • they’re usually expected to perform the same duties [e.g. Ile is generally consistently a shepherd]
    • They’re expected to possess similar traits and talents [e.g., if you were one of the strongest warriors, you’re expected to be one again]
  • I choose to interpret this in a healthy, loving way -- after all we, as people, change and grow. But even as we become new people, we hold our younger selves in love and remembrance.

The Previous Ile

  • Across all iterations, Ile is a curious and open-minded soul.
  • The previous Ile had a disability, and could not venture far out of Dotharl Khaa without effort.
  • He was beloved by his family, a bright and friendly soul who loved to chat (and gossip)

A year before this Ile was born, the last Ile passed away in his sleep — at the ripe old age of 80. Perhaps some would wonder, then, why their soul was given the opportunity to be reborn. The answer is simple: their soul burned bright till the end, of course! The Dotharl recognised Ile's fierce loyalty and care to their friends; although he never powerfully swung an axe, or cast any destructive, earth-shattering spell — they saw, truly, through his acts, that his soul danced boldly and fearlessly all the same.

Character Thesis

  • Ile represents what it’s like to have a healthy loving relationship with yourself and to the world
  • He’s grateful to be sustained by nature, by the world, and hopes to help sustain it in turn.
  • Ile is a person who is, and was, fully held in unconditional love by family and community
  • Partly because of that, they’re truly free to love other people and the world without qualms

NPC Relationships

  • Naldiq & Vymelli’s: his ‘2nd family’!
  • H’naanza looked out for him when he was a baby adventurer arriving in Limsa/Eorzea for the first time from the Ruby Sea. Ile spends his first two years in Eorzea as an employee of N&V (BSM & ARM). Ile looks up to H’naanza a lot and really respects her guidance and advice.
  • Brithael is like Ile’s older brother. He tries his best to look out for Ile despite being quite a silly person himself. Ile respects him a bit but also likes to bother him.
  • Blanstyr is like Ile’s twin brother. Despite starting off on a hostile note (on Blanstyr’s end), they soon become friends and get up to quite a lot of antics together. They have a lot of friendly passionate competitions (see below: Blanstyr’s defeat and Ile’s triumph)

Sezul Totoloc from the Ixal BTQ! Ile adores Sezul, pretty much from the moment they met because Sezul’s soul shines so brightly when he speaks of the Ehcatl Nine’s dream to fly into the skies. (I think all Dotharli have a thing for determined people). Sezul’s passion inspires Ile so much he really wants to see Sezul’s dream to fruition, too. Ile loves Sezul’s laugh. Their dynamic is sort of “person who’s your dad’s age but is your friend”. Ile is surprisingly more talkative around Sezul, who exceptionally makes him feel like chatting, for some reason.

(If Sezul were to pass away, Ile would wait to see if he could be reincarnated into the Dotharl -- for valiant friends of the Dotharl may have a chance to be reborn, too).

Raulf from the Culinarian Quests 60-70! Again, warm and kind energetic figure. Ile also really likes supporting determined people. Sometimes Ile will help Raulf out at Rowena’s diner in Mor Dhona when he happens to be passing by, and they have a good time catching up. Ile likes seeing Raulf happy, especially. Play Your CUL Quests!

If you know who visits the Mor Dhona kitchen sometimes -- Ile introduces the three of them, so now they’re all friends :)
