AUTOBIOGRAPHY
You could say my photography is in the third person. I am the author, but I am not the subject. And yet, my subjectivity informs it.
WHEN I WRITE FICTION, OR ESSAYS,I NEED TO MAKE SENSE TO THE READER, BUT I LIKE TO REMAIN SLIGHTLY AMBIVALENT ABOUT WHAT I’VE WRITTEN WHILE STANDING BY EVERY WORD.
I WANT SOME AMBIGUITY.
EVEN THOUGH I AM THE AUTHOR, I DON’T WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHERE EVERYTHING COMES FROM.
Photography that is 100% explicable bores me
BECAUSE I WRITE, I NEVER WANT TO EXPLAIN MY PHOTOS.
I RARELY CAPTION THEM. IT FEELS LIKE CHEATING. LIKE TELLING THE VIEWER WHAT TO THINK.

I TRY TO LIVE WHAT I TELL STUDENTS: THE TYPE OF CAMERA DOESN’T MATTER, IT’S THE PHOTOS, BUT YOU MUST ACCEPT YOUR SUBJECT’S REACTION.
IF YOU TAKE THE PHOTO, CAN YOU TAKE THE HEAT?
BE CURIOUS. BE AWARE
