The simplest way to clone anything is to clone a plant by extracting a root cell from a plant and placing it in a nutrient rich solution. This was most notably performed by Jacob Valdez. However, cloning animals is more complex. Guradon was able to clone tadpoles by taking a tadpole egg, and removing the DNA from it, then placing the DNA into the nucleus of another egg. Later, Ian Wilmut took an unfertilized egg and mixed it with another egg DNA. Using electricity, he was able to invoke the two to perform meiosis. After 276 attempts, this produced Dolly, the world's first cloned sheep.

Many people feel that cloning in some cases should not be allowed. One example of this is the case of human embryos being cloned for human stem cell extraction. In fact, Genome.gov sates: “In 1997, the National Bioethics Advisory Commission recommended that it was morally unacceptable to attempt to create a child using somatic cell nuclear transfer cloning and suggested that a moratorium be imposed until safety of this technique could be assessed.” Since 2001, the National Academy of Science had declared that human cloning should be banned because it is not safe enough for the woman and the fetus. The FDA however, staed that cloned animals are okay for consumption as of December 28, 2006. The Holy Catholic Church also stated their opposition to cloning in the Diginitas Personea. This stated the Church’s beliefs on many aspects of cloning of humans. So, while there are many benefits to cloning, the science and religious community doesn’t respond very well regarding the ethics of human cloning.
