The bindery is a room filled with machines, supplies, and tools for making and repairing books.

Preserving Memories in the Bindery

In the bindery, you can:

  1. Preserve memories by making a new book or pamphlet.
  2. Preserve memories by repairing or restoring an old book.
  3. Attend classes to learn book-binding skills.
  4. Once trained, use the equipment on your own to create professional looking projects.

There are several types of bindings that can be used.

There is also an embossing tool that can be used to give your book or pamphlet a professional appearance.

We can add special touches by using the embossing machine to add titles or names to a book.

First, we need to reinforce the binding.

And glue it down to the sides.

Now, we attach a glued double stitched binder to the pages.

Next we attach the pages to the cover.

Then we cover our repair with a new cover page,

and the repair is complete.

Priceless memories have been preserved by repairing

and restoring an old book.

We can do additional book restorations and repairs

This type of a repair is done using a repairing tissue and a hot iron.

We have done this for books, music and other thing as well.

We can repair a torn page

We can reattach torn-out or loose pages.

This can be a single page.

Or it can be an entire section of a book.

We can repair a separated or loose spine.

We can rebuild a lost or destroyed cover.

The class is taught in the late fall or early winter - October, and November - so that people can use skills for making Christmas gifts.

In the class you will learn about book binding, make your own book, and will do some book repair.

The class is taught by Ben Reeves who also oversees the bindery. There is a charge of $5 to cover the cost of materials.

The first class will be taught on Monday afternoons from 2 PM to 3:30 PM.

Class will start on October 5, 2015 and continue on October 12 and

October 19.

The second class will be taught on Wednesday mornings from 10 AM to 11:30 AM.

Class will start on November 4, 2015 and continue on November 11 and November 18.

Some Important Notes

When using the bindery, patrons pay only for supplies used.

There is a pricelist available

at the reception desk in the west building.

Classroom space is limited, so don’t wait too long to register!
