Background
Did you know that American scientist and inventor Benjamin Franklin first used the term “battery” in 1749, during his early experiments with electricity? Today —more than 250 years later—scientists and engineers are still working to build a “better battery.”
Create a timeline to imagine, visualize, and tell the story about the humble beginnings of the battery, and to map where the technology is today.

With your partner or team, make a timeline. Include images and text (either digitally or on paper) that shows important dates, who was involved, the type of work they accomplished, how battery technology developed, and its influence on society. Once your timeline is complete, take a look at the big picture. How did the development of the battery over time impact our planet? Was it good or bad?
