A Good Blog Post

- states your opinion on an issue

- is written in a way that encourages your audience to respond

- may include images, videos, hyperlinks to other information.

If you are embedding an image or video make sure you introduce it and explain why you are including it. Tell your audience what they should look for. You also must cite (credit) your source.

Your teacher may supply you with recommended topics or starter phrases.

Your first blog post:

Choose an image that you think says something about Canada's identity.

Insert the image into your blog (cite your source - at least the URL).

Explain why you chose this image and what it says about Canada's identity.

Example:

This is a photograph of the Peace Tower in Ottawa. I chose this image because I think it represents a lot of things that are important to Canada and what Canadians stand for.

Let's start with it's name: the Peace Tower. Part of Canada's reputation is that it is a peacekeeping nation. But it is not just about being peaceful, it is about the sacrifices made during war to bring peace. At its dedication near the end of WWI, PM Borden said it was "...memorial to the debt of our forefathers and to the valour of those Canadians who, in the Great War, fought for the liberties of Canada..." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_Tower) I think this also shows

that Canadians have been willing to make sacrifices to protect the things we hold dear.

I also chose this image because it it part of the Parliament buildings which represent our democratic government system.
