Помаранчева революція, Революція Гідності, російсько-українська війна стали тими етапами еволюції свідомості громадян України, які позначили відхід від психологічного сприйняття патерналістських стереотипів взаємовідносин особи і держави, що були однією із основних перешкод побудови громадянського суспільства раніше.

З 2014 р. відбулися суттєві зміни в напрямах діяльності багатьох ОГС, що позначилося на загальній структурі, чисельності, формах і методах їх діяльності. Почали активно формуватися та ставати дедалі більш значущими громадські ініціативи та мобілізаційні стратегії в безпековій сфері, зумовлені ними нові механізми взаємодії між державними органами та неурядовими структурами.

Кількість зареєстрованих благодійних організацій в Україні лише за 2022 рік збільшилася майже у 8 разів (6 367 нових БО). Натомість кількість реєстрацій нових  громадських організацій зменшилася майже вдвічі (2 760 нових ГО).

77% опитаних громадських та благодійних організацій тим чи іншим чином допомагають ЗСУ. Близько 90% складає гуманітарна допомога, майже 70% — інформаційна підтримка. І орієнтовно 50% організовують збори на потреби ЗСУ.

• ТОП-10 сфер діяльності ГО/БО до і після повномасштабного вторгнення: Допомога армії, ветеранам 21.9% -> 43.2% (зростання)
• Допомога жертвам війни і переселенцям 17.5% -> 43.2% (зростання)
• Культура і спорт, туризм 36.0%% -> 27.2% (зменшення)
• Освіта 29.1% -> 23.8% (зменшення)
• Правова допомога 17.1% -> 14.7%*
• Захист прав людини 15.2% -> 13.3%*
• Допомога вразливим верствам населення, людям з особливими потребами 11.5% -> 12.0% *
• Екологія 14.7% -> 10.3% *
• Соціальне підприємництво 10.7% -> 8.4%*
• Наукові і аналітичні дослідження, консалтинг 9.8% -> 7.9%*
