8 Safety Strategies

1

Face Coverings | All adults, students, and children age two and older must wear a face covering (mask or cloth covering) inside of any CWC LA building and on any CWC LA campus.

2

Social Distancing | Classrooms, hallways, lobbies, offices, etc. will be reconfigured as best as possible to accommodate social distancing in reason.

3

Hand Hygiene | All adults and students must use hand sanitizer before entering a CWC LA building, classroom, office, and/or any other space. Additionally, students and staff will have specific times throughout the day to wash their hands with soap and water.

4

Health Screenings and Temperature Checks | All staff will complete a daily health screening form, and all adults and students will be temperature checked before entering a CWC LA building.

5

Cleaning and Disinfecting | All spaces will be cleaned daily/nightly with high-touch/high-traffic areas being disinfected with greater frequency.

6

Rapid Response Protocols | If an adult or student is feeling sick, they are asked to stay home. All CWC staff and families will follow the protocols outlined in CWC LA’s Exposure Management Plan if a student and/or staff member has COVID-19 symptoms, tests positive for COVID, and/or has had direct contact with someone who has the virus.

7

Use of Cohorts | When in-person, students and staff will be organized into small, stable and consistent groups with limited interactions between groups.

8

Surveillance Testing | CWC will ensure school personnel that have contact with students or other staff participate in periodic surveillance testing based on local disease trends and when instructed by DPH.

Physical Distancing and Hand Hygiene

Ample Kid Friendly Signage

    • Physical distancing - 6 feet distance
    • Washing hands
    • Face mask reminder

Hallways/Stairwell Procedures

In order to ensure students and staff maintain the recommended 6’ distance from each other while moving throughout campus spaces, arrows have been added to direct traffic.

Following a ‘rules of the road’ approach, students and staff should be directed to keep to the right while in hallways and stairwells.

Key Components of the Plan

  • Hybrid cohorts for two days in person per week

  • Start with 1 day per week, then 2 days

  • Wednesdays will be used for intervention, SEL support, teacher planning and perhaps assessment (grades 2nd and up).

    • April 19th, CWC LA will offer a free, ready-to-eat meal to each student each day they attend school on-site.
    • In addition, CWC will distribute packs with 5 frozen meals to ALL students who are interested on Wednesdays from 2 -5

  • Can students bring their own lunch?
    • Of course! If students choose to bring their own lunch from home during any in-person learning days, that's great.

  • What about snacks?

Technology

When at home:

  • No change! Continue to use either your CWC issued chromebook or personal device.
  • Students will similarly interact with one another and teachers via Zoom for synchronous learning while engaging in different platforms for asynchronous work.
  • Google Classroom will remain being the main “hub” for classroom assignments, notifications, etc.

When at school:

  • Students will need a device for independent work or learning via Zoom with students at home.

  • If your child is using a CWC Chromebook at home currently, they will need to bring that device to school for any in-person school days. Please support your child in bringing a fully-charged laptop to school each day of in-person learning.

  • If your child is using a family-owned device for at-home learning, they will be provided a CWC device for in-person learning days (therefore no need to bring any personal devices to school).

  • CWC has obtained enough additional devices to ensure everyone has the necessary technology while learning at school.

Our Important Asks Of You, Part 1

  • Review and practice proper hand hygiene at home, especially before and after eating, sneezing, coughing, and adjusting a mask.
  • Make hand-washing fun and explain to your child why it’s important.
  • Be familiar and preview for your child how and where they can re-fill waterbottles throughout the day.
  • Develop daily routines before and after school—for example, things to pack for school in the morning (like hand sanitizer and an additional “back-up” mask) and things to do when you return home (like washing hands immediately and washing masks).
  • Talk to your child about precautions to take at school. Children will be advised to:
    • Wash and sanitize their hands more often.
    • Keep physical distance from other students.
    • Wear a mask.
    • Avoid sharing objects with other students, including water bottles, devices, writing instruments, and books.
    • Use hand sanitizer (that contains at least 60% alcohol.)
    • Monitor how they feel and tell an adult if they are not feeling well.

Our Important Asks Of You, Part 2

  • Check in with your child each morning for signs of illness.
  • If your child has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, they should not go to school.
  • Make sure your child does not have a sore throat or other signs of illness, like a cough, diarrhea, severe headache, vomiting, or body aches.
  • If your child has had close contact to a COVID-19 case, they should not go to school.
  • Make sure your child is up-to-date with all recommended vaccines, including for flu.
  • All school-aged children should get an influenza flu vaccine every season, with rare exceptions. This is especially important this year because we do not yet know if being sick with COVID-19 at the same time as the flu will result in more severe illness.

We all know this is a new way for our students to go to school each day.

We also know that you or your children may have some anxiety around returning to school (which is completely normal right now!).

We strongly encourage you to refrain from asking your child about the school’s protocols every day, including whether or not everyone in their class was wearing a mask 24/7, whether or not anyone ever coughed, ever, or other questions of that nature. The last thing we want to do is heighten any anxiety around COVID. So instead …

Focus on the fun, ask what they did during circle time, ask if they sang any songs, ask who they sat next to at lunch. Keep it light, keep it fun! We want to lead with a supportive environment as we adapt to this change.
