                  • Listen respectfully to the teacher and other students.
                  • Follow all the instructions given to you by the grown-ups in school.
                  • Phones need to be kept in your pouch at all times.
                  • No eating or drinking (except for water, in reusable bottles as single use plastic is banned in school) in the classroom.

Restorative Behaviour Management System

  • There are no specific lists of sanctions
  • We teach children that their actions have consequences and that they need to take responsibility for their actions
  • Mainly, we issue verbal warnings and have conversations with our pupils so that they understand why a particular behaviour or action is inappropriate or unacceptable.
  • Written letters to parents are issued if there is a persistent concern, either behaviour or academic and also by way of information. These are not sanctions.
  • Detentions – break and after-school – for either a persistent issue or a serious incident.
  • Isolation or suspension for very serious issues e.g. a physical aggression

Punctuality

  • Being frequently late to school adds up to lost learning:
  • Arriving 5 minutes late each day = 3 days lost in a year
  • Arriving 15 minutes late each day = 2 weeks lost in a year
  • Arriving 30 minutes late each day = 19 days in a year. This is the same as having 90% attendance.

Bayside School

What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets, inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?

This quote is over 2000 years old. When you work in a school you realise that this statement isn’t really true and that our young people are truly inspirational. Our job is to help them fulfil their potential.

Plato, 4th century BC
