Why are we here?

Because we have neighborhoods in our City, including East Price Hill, with significant quality of life challenges and the status quo approach to improvement is not working.

​

Challenges of Status Quo:

  • Quality of life issues are complex, intertwined, and cannot be solved with one approach or inconsistent efforts.
  • We are lacking a structure for City departments to coordinate closely with residents and external organizations to focus on these challenges in a single neighborhood.
  • Silos in City operations and between the City and partners and residents undercuts a coordinated and informed response to issues.
  • We have a great neighborhood planning process but not a great implementation strategy for those plans.

The Thriving Neighborhoods Initiative is a pilot project to create a structure for the City, residents, and partners to work together to address quality of life issues.

​

We are starting in East Price Hill with the hope of taking the model to other neighborhoods and institutionalizing a better approach.

Six workstreams to focus on improvements on six basic elements of a thriving neighborhood.

  • Safe – Focus on public safety (Cincinnati Police Department)

​

  • Healthy – Focus on improving public health (Cincinnati Health Department)

​

  • Clean – Focus on neighborhood cleanliness and property conditions (Buildings and Inspections)

​

  • Livable – Focus on the health of the housing market, neighborhood businesses, and activation/social engagement through arts, events, and culture (Department of Community and Economic Development)

​

  • Connected – Focus on transportation infrastructure, public transportation, and pedestrian experience (Department of Transportation and Engineering)

​

  • Empowered Youth – Focus on improving childcare and teen engagement, employment, and outcomes (Cincinnati Recreation Commission)

What is our vision?

Starting today.

Build off existing neighborhood plan and existing initiatives. Identify key community priorities and issues.

Where are we now?

Conduct data collection and get community input, then complete analysis to develop a baseline picture of the issues and identify key insights and key drivers.

Where do we want to be?

Set measurable goals for change, informed by the baseline and key driver analysis. Solidify how success will be measured.
