Our Purpose

The Illinois Society for Respiratory Care (ISRC) was founded to educate, connect, and advance those interested in the field of respiratory care. We strive to:

  • Provide high-quality educational programs, meetings, and lectures.
  • Share resources through newsletters and other professional materials.
  • Promote the science, technology, ethics, and art of respiratory care.

We are also committed to fostering collaboration among respiratory care professionals, physicians, allied health providers, hospitals, industry partners, and agencies across Illinois—all working together to improve patient care and strengthen our profession.

What is the AARC?

  • The AARC was founded in 1947 as the American Association of Inhalation Therapists and later renamed in 1974 to reflect the broader scope of respiratory care
  • AARC MISSION: promote respiratory health through advocacy, education, and research. AARC strives to advance the respiratory care profession by providing resources, support, and networking opportunities for its members, who include respiratory therapists, educators, students, and other professionals in the field.
  • The association collaborates with healthcare organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions to ensure quality care for patients with respiratory disorders.
  • AARC also publishes clinical practice guidelines, and hosts conferences and events to facilitate knowledge exchange and professional development within the respiratory care community.

What is the sputum bowl?!

  • TRIVIA FOR RESPIRATORY WITH BRAGGING RIGHTS!
  • History :Since 1978, the Aerogen Sputum Bowl has been a cornerstone of our annual Congress meetings. In 2004, we introduced the Student Division to the Bowl, igniting exponential growth in participation and excitement over the years.
  • The Aerogen Sputum Bowl is an exciting quiz-style competition held at the AARC Congress. Teams of respiratory care practitioners and students compete to test their knowledge of respiratory care topics.
  • In Illinois- we will have a state sputum bowl at ISRC conference and send the winning team to the national sputum bowl at AARC
