Check In

  • Deal Breakers
  • What is a deal breaker for your ideal partner?
  • Example: You meet your ideal partner. You are totally in love! They are your perfect match in every way imaginable. But they keep and organize their toe nail trimmings in glass jars, labeled by month and year. Is that a deal breaker???
  • First, think about and write down a deal breaker. Then in groups of 3, read your deal breaker to the other members of your group, and decide if it is a deal breaker for everyone and why!

  1. What is Algorithmic Justice in your own words?
  2. Do you believe this statement to be true? Why or why not?
    1. AI systems can amplify racism, sexism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination.
  3. What would you like to know about inclusive and accessible designs for tech?
  4. Institutions and decision makers that utilize AI technologies must be subject to accountability that goes beyond self-regulation. What does this accountability look like?
  5. Example: Joy Buolamwini, Founder of the Algorithmic Justice League, was working on an engineering project, a facial analysis software struggled to detect Joy’s face. When she put on a white mask, or drew a face on the palm of her hand, the facial recognition worked.
