Tom Griffin

Tom Griffin was a boxer in college, but when he broke his ankles, he abandoned boxing and became a navigator in the US Army Air Corps. He was from the town of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The city was founded as “La Baie Verte” (the green bay) in 1634, one of the oldest European settlements in America. By 1940, there were 46,000 inhabitants. As a port city shipping coal and cement, it played a vital role in the war effort.
