Reading

We will begin Module 5 for the Into Reading Program. The Essential Question for this Module is “How can caring for the Earth and its living things improve life now and in the future?” Reading skills and strategies of focus are Central Idea, Ask and Answer Questions, Author’s Purpose, Retelling, Elements of Drama, Literary Elements, Text Structure, Monitor and Clarify and Ideas and Support. In Writing, the students will write an editorial for their local Newspaper about an environmental issue they feel strongly about.

Math

This month we will continue solving the sums and differences of fractions, and apply understanding of division to divide fractions, and to use math background to develop rigor.

Please continue to work on memorizing basic facts at home.

Science

In science, we will be exploring the water cycle.. Students will prepare for the 5th grade New York State Science Exam and continue working on investigations and experiments in preparation. We will attend a trip this month to support our learning for this exam.

Social

Studies

In Social Studies , we will continue to study the United States and how our Government was formed by becoming an independent nation.

Social Emotional Learning

This month the class will focus on social awareness. Students will work together and learn ways to make good decisions and what is our responsibility in making good decisions.
