California's masking requirements remain in effect. Everyone must wear masks in the following settings, regardless of vaccination status:

  • Public transit
  • Hospitals
  • Long-term care facilities
  • Homeless shelters
  • Indoors in K-12 schools, childcare, and other youth settings

Additionally, unvaccinated residents will still need to wear masks in indoor public settings under the state’s face-covering order.

In some other Bay Area counties, face coverings or masks continue to be required and must be worn over the mouth and nose in all indoor public settings, regardless of vaccination status. Examples of indoor public settings include offices, retail stores, restaurants, bars, theaters, family entertainment centers, conference centers, and State and local government offices serving the public.

Marin’s Mask Mandate Ended 11/1/2021

Individual businesses / agencies can determine if they would like to implement mask required policies, vaccine verification process or allow self-attestation.

Per the state order….

In settings where masks are required only for unvaccinated individuals, businesses, venue operators or hosts may choose to:

  • Provide information to all patrons, guests and attendees regarding vaccination requirements and allow vaccinated individuals to self-attest that they are in compliance prior to entry; or
  • Implement vaccine verification to determine whether individuals are required to wear a mask; or
  • Require all patrons to wear masks.

No person can be prevented from wearing a mask as a condition of participation in an activity or entry into a business.

Meeting Guidance

  • Consider limiting attendance to a fraction of the maximum allowable capacity set by Fire Codes. Fifty percent capacity can help ensure space between attendees.
  • Consider requiring face covering for all attendees in public indoor meetings.
    • Provide masks at the door for attendees who may not have one. Conventional disposable paper masks are superior to cloth masks.
    • Limiting food and drink consumption during meetings will help ensure proper face covering.
  • Consider limiting in person attendance to fully vaccinated individuals.
  • Maintain a list of attendees allows notification of potentially exposed individuals if contact tracing reveals COVID-19 transmission may have occurred in a given meeting (30 days).

  3. Currently no supply of home-based test kits (schools cannot order directly from State; MCPH coordinating new order thru CDPH)
  4. Expiry Date on Binax 40 test kits (Oct. 29th, Nov. 7th) officially extended.

Updated CDPH Testing Guidance

Antigen tests are acceptable to determine both the presence or absence of active infection with SARS-CoV-2 in individuals with or without symptoms.

Repeat antigen testing and/or confirmatory molecular testing should be considered in individuals who receive a negative result with an antigen test but have COVID-19 symptoms.
