What comes to your mind when you hear the word “Ramadan”?
During Ramadan, Muslims fast to understand what it is like for poor people and Zakat means that they give money to charities.
Watch this video.
Zakāt or alms-giving is the practice of charitable giving by Muslims based on accumulated wealth, and is obligatory for all who are able to do so. It is considered to be a personal responsibility for Muslims to ease economic hardship for others and eliminate inequality. Zakat consists of spending 2.5% of one's wealth for the benefit of the poor or needy once a year.
Charity during Ramadan
Could you think of similar activities? In small groups, discuss what we can all do, either as individuals or communities, to help others. What about raising money for people who now have financial hardships due to corona crisis?
You may write a letter to your principal to suggest a charity fun day (see suggestion in slide #8).
Write about what sort of activities you could do and which charity / charities you
want the money to go to and why. Perhaps you will help out by volunteering and giving up time instead of / as well as money.
Let’s write a wish and create a Ramadan decoration
Watch this video and create your own lantern, crescent or star.Use a slide to write your wishes and attach photos of your decoration or charity activities. We will share them with Nas Daily! We will convince him to create a video about us!
Ramadan recipes
Ask students to search google for famous food recipes that Muslims prepare during Ramadan. Use OURBOOX to share their recipes and pictures with you.
You may arrange a school market( when we get back) to sell some of these foods and donate the money you get to people in need.
