Restorative Practices
What are Restorative Practices?
The 5 R’s of Restorative Practices
The 5 R's include:
At the heart of every restorative process is a damaged relationship between the person who caused a harm, the recipient of the harm, and the community in which the harm was felt. Restorative practices looks to repair the harm better all parties.
How Does This Look At School?
Restorative Practices at Home
Restorative practices focus on having positive relationships. When we make a mistake, they ask us to take responsibility for our behavior and make amends. At the heart of restorative practices is the belief that we are all in this together. At home, this can include taking responsibility for keeping spaces clean or for the choices we make, having positive relationships with family and friends, and being respectful of those around us. Restorative practices support children in learning how to create healthy relationships and how to resolve conflicts.
Power Hour
Power hour is a systematic approach to providing students with the interventions and extensions that they need to master essential skills and learning.
What is Power Hour?
How Does it Work?
Step 3
Students are taught specific skills and standards through targeted lessons and activities.
Step 4
Teachers meet during early release time to analyze student progress. Teachers collaborate by making plans together and talking through strategies to reach students who may still be struggling.
Step 1
Essential Standards and learning targets are identified at each grade level. Teachers go through a systematic and rigorous process to choose essential standards and identify how they will know if students have learned them.
Step 2
Data gathering and analysis takes place. Teachers groups students by their ability within a certain skill or standard. Data is closely analyzed to look for patterns and other weak spots to find the root cause of a skill knowledge deficit.
