Where we can find nouns in a sentence ?

Nouns can :

• Act as the subject of a verb.
• Act as the object of a verb.
• Act as the complement of a verb.

Where do nouns come in sentences ?

Types of nouns

Concrete and abstract nouns

• A concrete noun is a noun which refers to people and things that exist physically and can be seen;touched;

smelled;heared or tasted.

Examples:

Dog-Building-Coffee-Tree-Rain-Beach-Tune.

• An abstract noun is a noun which refers to ideas

qualities and conditions;things that cannot be seen or

touched and things which have no physical reality.

Examples:

​

Truth-Danger-happiness-Time-Humour-Friendship.

Common and Proper Nouns

• A common noun names any person, place, thing or idea.

​

​

• A proper noun names a specific person, place, thing or idea.

Examples

Countable and uncountable nouns

• Countable nouns refer to something that can be counted.

They can be singular or plural.

​

• Uncountable nouns do not typically refer to something that can be counted

​

So they do not regulary have a plural form.

​

Singular and Plural Nouns

• A singular noun names one person, place, thing or idea.

• A plural noun names more than one person, place, thing or idea

Regular and irregular plural forms

Regular forms:

Most countable nouns have a plural form that ends in S.

Irregular forms:

Many irregular plural forms involve a change in vowel.
