MANAGEMENT

Management is a term which finds a common application very where. Knowingly or unknowingly every individual applies the technique of management every in daily life. Many management experts have given different views about what management.

DEFINATIONS

“Management is an art of getting things done through other people” – (J.L. Hayes)

“Management is a multipurpose organ that manages a business and manages managers and manages workers and work” – (P.F.Drucke)

  • “To manage is to forecast to plan to organise to, command coordinate and to control’’-(Henny fayal)
  • “Management is knowing exactly what you want men to do and the seeing that they do it in the best and cheepest way “ -(F.W. Taylon).
  • “Management is defined as individuals, working together in groups can perform effeciently and effectively towords the attainment of group goals”- (koontz & O’ Donell).

Difference between management and administration:-

Both the terms and management and administration took similar in meaning to a common man. People use both the terms randomly in palace of each other . But to be more practical, we have to agree that both the terms are different in their meaning and application. They cannot be inter charged. The dictionary meaning of management is not administration and vice- versa. Many management experts are of the opinion that they are different words with difference in meaning.

Some common views of the management experts are given as under:-

Management-

  1. Management is a term which finds applications only in case of business. So they say only organisations carrying on business can use the term management for decision making and implementation of the decisions.
  2. Management is a tower level function which concern with the execution of plans and policies laid down by administration.
  3. Management is a very broad term which includes the entire process of planning, policy making, coordinating maintaining morale and discipline.

Administon-

  1. Administration is a term which is applicable in organisations which do not carry on any business. So non-business organisations like school, college, hospital, club, etc. use the term administration for making decisions and implementing such decisions.
  2. Administration is a top level function which centres around determination of major policies and objectives of the organisation.

3. Administration is certain part of management which includes only planning, policy making , coordinating , maintaining morale and discipline.

4. We can conclude that administration is a function largely of policy making and management is an executive function. Which carries out the actual work as per the guidelines of administration.

Function management-

Broadly speaking management include everything which is necessary for the performance of a work.

Usually, there are eight functions of management, which are as follows:-
