Quadrant 1

During this term learners will focus on a novel study. This year it is ‘The Hate U Give.

Learners take part in discussions on themes of prejudice,grief and relationships. They will consider the real life context of these issues (news reports, documentaries) and their own opinions on these.

Learners will analyse the language, interactions and physical descriptions of characters to infer about their characteristics. They will collate their findings in an appropriate written structure.

Creation and Production

Key Literacy Skills: Writing and Talking.

Writing: Learners create a 300+ word piece of writing in the chosen genre.

Talking: Learners take part in individual presentation and/or group discussion activities throughout the year.

Analysis and Evaluation

Key Literacy Skills: Reading and Listening

Reading: Learners develop and demonstrate a range of strategies to understand, analyse and evaluate a piece of writing. 1 non-fiction passage + questions.

Listening: Learners apply these skills to a spoken word text. Non-fiction extract (documentary etc).

Added Value Unit

Independently complete a piece of critical writing between 600-800 words.

Contribute to group discussion related to the topic of the writing.

Literacy

Overall assessment of the 4 key skills of Reading, Writing, Talking and Listening.
