History of CRs in Texas

  • CRs have a long history as a part of the Texas assessment program
    • ECRs have been included in statewide assessments since 1990 though the grade levels have varied as the assessment program changed.
      • Prior to the Spring 2023 administration, ECRs were standalone prompts unrelated to passages students read on the corresponding assessment.
    • SCRs were included on grades 9-11 TAKS and STAAR assessments from 2003 through December 2016.
    • ECRs and SCRs have historically been human scored by more than one rater.
