Accelerated Math
Grades 6 & 7
Students who are successful in accelerated math have most of these attributes:
MAP math scores (NWEA MAP Growth)
- Math percentiles trending at or above 80
Ohio state math test (OST) performance
- Performance level of "accomplished" or “advanced” on the 5th-grade mathematics ohio state test
Classroom performance
- Achieves mastery of grade-level math concepts as measured on unit tests and quizzes
- Utilizes problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Applies math concepts to real-world problems and think critically
- Performs well on extended-response math tasks that require reasoning and explanation
- Participates in math discussions and shows evidence of perseverance in problem based tasks
- Expresses enthusiasm and interest in challenging math topics
- Demonstrates willingness to complete accelerated coursework
Gifted Identifications
- Superior cognitive ability or subject-specific ability in math
Course Content
Standards progressions of curriculums used in Grades 6 and 7 have been aligned to ensure comprehensive coverage for students, and by compressing the traditional three-year pathway into two years, students are prepared to begin high school mathematics in 8th grade.
