What is Quill and Scroll

Quill and Scroll is an International Honorary Society for High School Journalists.

Founded in 1926, it now has over 15,500 charters and more than 6,100 members annually.

What benefits do members get

  • Lifetime membership
  • Access to contests, members-only area (through adviser), Monthly Scroll for the first year of membership, may purchase member-only items.
  • Eligibility for scholarships during your senior year
  • Chapter can meet and have activities centering around student media and media literacy (see site for these)
  • Advisers of initiated seniors may order graduation honor cords and other memorabilia
  • Resume builder
  • If your chapter is active, have officers. Highlight this on your resume.

How to join

  1. Check to see if your school has a charter. A list of charters is available here.
  2. Your adviser can contact Quill and Scroll to induct new members.

New members must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled in high school
  2. Maintain a B grade average or be in the upper third of their class
  3. Have done superior work for scholastic journalism
  4. Be recommended by an adviser or supervisor.
