Why Kelvin Pulse Surveys?

Each year, the District participates in the CA Healthy Kids Survey, which gives us an annual overview of the SEL trends taking place among our students related to:

  • Students sense of well-being
  • Students positive outlook towards school
  • Students connectedness to peers and adults at school
  • School Safety
  • and other indicators (frequent sadness, cyberbullying)

Since the pandemic, these trends tend to be moving in negative ways, in Lafayette and around the state.

2023 LAFSD students reported declines in the areas of:

School connectedness, caring adult relationships, academic motivation, high expectations for learning, anti-bullying climate, and frequent sadness.

Over the last four years, the LAFSD has greatly increased staffing and programs to support our students’ wellbeing.

Why Kelvin Pulse Surveys

Since a once per year CHKS survey does not provide timely information regarding our students current SEL needs, Kelvin Education Pulse surveys will be conducted to provide formative assessment data to supplements our current SEL practices.

Kelvin Education formative assessment data will support the progress monitoring of SEL indicators in addition to the support LAFSD is currently providing to students. The survey provides the opportunity for aggregate data across grade levels and school sites to help us identify progress towards these indicators through the school year.
