Introduction

This project’s goal was to create a home security system using an Arduino along with additional parts connected to it on a bread board. This was to was to demonstrate an understanding of how to use and create tools with an Arduino. The tools used within this project was the Tinkercad website. Connected to the Arduino itself was multiple different parts such as Leds, An ultrasonic distance sensor, a buzzer, and a photoresistor. When all put together the Arduino would be able to tell how far or close something was and If it got within a certain range it would change the lights from green to red and cause the buzzer to go off.

Module 4 description

For this project we had used a switch to activate a buzzer on the breadboard. The buzzer would make a noise, and it could be adjusted how fast each interval was in between each buzzing noise.

Module 5 description

In this project we had attached a distance sensor and if an object had gotten too close the buzzer would activate as well as turning off the green LED and turning on the red LED. The data from the distance sensor was then taken from the serial monitor and plotted onto a graph.

Module 6 description

With this project a automated light was added. This was done by using a photoresistor to detect the light level. When it got too dark it would then turn on the blue LED to provide artificial lighting.

Challenges/Lessons Learned

I have previously used Arduinos before, and I have worked in many arcades, so I am familiar with a lot of what was done during this class. This class was very much like a refresher for me because it had been some time since I have used an Arduino. I had never used Tinkercad as a way of making prototypes for my projects. This came as a challenge for me because I am used to doing most of these things physically. I was able to learn how easy it was to make a clean prototype within this space. Another thing I had learned was that we could use a serial monitor to output information. I have never used this before on an Arduino but it inspires me to use this within future endeavors in the future.

Career Skills

The skills I developed within this class is how to properly prototype and test my creations. This will help me gain opportunities to advance In my career by showing my ability to test and create things and move past problems that I may have.

Conclusion

These projects have helped me to learn to create and prototype devices on an Arduino Uno. Although I have had experience with Ardunios In the past I have learned how to use the serial monitor and how to prototype these devices in Tinkercad before making it into a physical creation. Within this project I had created a security system that can detect how far or close something is then set off a alarm/buzzer. It is able to create a light source when it gets dark and is able to change which lights are on to determine what state the security system is in.

References

Most of what I had done within this course was due to my own previous experience with Arduinos. This experience was gained during the covid-19 pandemic when I had at home schooling and was no longer working. I had used this spare time I had to try and teach myself about many things such as Arduinos, Python, and C++.
