Why Switch?

  • PowerSchool Learning was being retired in September 2022.
  • PowerSchool bought the LMS Schoology.
  • Change delayed by COVID.
  • Committee of faculty from across all four school divisions selected Schoology.

Parent vs Student

Accounts

Having an account in Schoology is like having two accounts:

  1. Personal Account
  2. Student View Account(s)

In student view, you view Schoology from your child’s perspective - see what they see and receive updates about their activity.

Landing Page

Won’t see much as ES/LS students don’t use Schoology for grades or assignments. Upcoming section can be helpful for calendar items.

Courses Page

Once you click on your student, you can then click on Courses to visit each of their classes.

Sample Courses

All of the teachers are using a nested folder system for each week.

Messaging

  • There is the ability to message directly within Schoology.
  • Teachers may use this feature to message you or the class directly.
  • Parents may use this feature to respond back.

  • A teacher’s Shorecrest email is the preferred method for reaching out to teachers.

Weekly Access

  • Email digests are available, but they don’t benefit ES and LS families.
  • Email digests are geared for MS and US families.
  • Unfortunately, there is no way to set up an email notification to come to your box.
  • Notifications do not work the same way they used to in PowerSchool Learning.

Accessing Links in the App

  • Some parents have reached out stating the slideshow links from the LS pages don’t always work in Schoology app.
  • Appears to be a device issue, not a Schoology app issue as they do work for some parents..
  • Best view of Schoology will always be on a computer or laptop.
  • Working with teachers to include multiple links to accomodate all individual devices.

Accessing Photos in the App

  • Photos are viewable in the app but you can’t download them to your device.
  • This is a limitation of the Schoology app. Nothing Shorecrest can control.
  • Photos can be downloaded when logged into Schoology from a laptop or computer.
