The Disruptus Challenge

The disruptus challenge can be used to get creativity flowing in the classroom, as a team building activity, or as a starting point for a business idea. Students quickly go from idea to prototype in one class period.

The card game “Disruptus” can be purchased from Amazon here.

Start by drawing 2 cards from the “Disruptus” card game. Students need to combine the 2 products or pieces/concepts of the 2 products to create a new product.

The Disruptus Challenge

Steps to the Disruptus Challenge:

  1. Individual Brainstorming - 3 Minutes - Students can sketch or write out details of their new product.
  2. Feedback - 2 Minutes each - Student get two minutes to share their idea with a partner/group and record feedback. (Timing will be determined by how many students you have in groups. I try to keep it to 2 or 3.)
  3. Group Idea - 3 Minutes - The groups now have to come up with a product for their group. It can be an iteration of the group members products or a combination of multiple group members.
  4. Prototype - 10 Minutes - Each group now has to make a rough prototype of their their product. See next slide for ideas of materials to provide students with to create prototypes.
  5. Pitch - 3 Minutes - Each groups now have 3 minutes to come up with an elevator pitch for their product that they will present to the class. You can use my Elevator Pitch Mad Libs if you want.
  6. Have groups present their elevator pitch and prototype to the class.
