What is Bethune House?

Bethune House is a community since 1986 to shelter distressed migrant women. They are an emergency shelter run by the community, providing food, medical care, and other support. Because there aren’t enough support services in Hong Kong for migrant women workers in difficulty, they help them find justice and attain liberation by meeting their fundamental needs.

Bethune House’s issues and goals

But among the most vulnerable populations in the city is the migrant worker community. Numerous migrant workers have their contracts terminated without being at fault, and some are abused physically and/or psychologically by their employers. Serving the migrant women workers in Hong Kong is their mission at Bethune House. Bethune House believes migrant women workers deserve to be treated fairly and with respect. Their goal is to close the divide that exists between the migrant worker population and the local Hong Kong community. Therefore, they take every effort to lessen the load on migrant women workers who are experiencing difficulties.

The Current Problem

Bethune House can only rely on support from the community and other generous individuals to keep their two shelters running. As of present, their funds can only cover expenses for the next two months, and they are in urgent need of community support.

To solve this, they’ve started their ‘Save Our Shelter (S.O.S.) Drive’, where they aim to raise HKD $1 million to sustain operations until the end of the year– this would go to covering rent, utilities, food, and other necessities.

Every donation is extremely meaningful and will go towards supporting the NGO.

Please bring $20 minimum to wear white and purple so we can raise awareness and contribute to one of Hong Kong’s most marginalised communities.
