All participants are expected to:

Treat everyone with respect and dignity.
Share perspectives and offer feedback openly and honestly.
Be open to experiencing new concepts and differing viewpoints.
Work to ensure that others have opportunities to speak and share.

Take responsibility for your actions and impacts. Acknowledge harm when it has occurred, and apologize.
Report perceived unacceptable �behaviors directed at yourself or �others using the reporting �options outlined in the �Code of Conduct.

Share code of conduct for THIS space, but also provide a meta intro to the concept and development of the CoC and how it is used by WSG in various settings - meetings, conferences, long-term consortiums, online events.
WSG provides it’s staff with resources for sharing the CoC at community meetings and other events such as - THIS SLIDE - as well as posters, example text for event registration pages and the full CoC is also hosted on our website where folks can read specifics about what constitutes expected and unacceptable behaviour as well as how to report unacceptable behaviour at WSG events and what the response to that behavior will be.
Having a thoughtfully established CoC is very helpful for both participants as well as for our staff, especially when convening groups around potentially contentious issues.

What does it mean to be a Sea Grant program?

All Sea Grant programs are federal-state partnerships. Many/most are housed at universities, and many of those are co-located with Land Grant Extension programs (or what you might commonly think of as agricultural extension programs). Washington Sea Grant was one of the first four Sea Grant programs designated nationally – just over 50 years ago. And WSG is housed at the University of Washington, within the College of the Environment.

All Sea Grant programs are guided by the National Sea Grant strategic plan – which outlines four broad focus areas – Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development; Healthy Coastal Ecosystems; Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture; and Resilient Communities and Economies.

At Washington Sea Grant, we translate the national strategic plan based on Washington state context and needs into the Washington Sea Grant strategic plan, with essentially the same four broad focus areas.

WSG then works with hundreds of partners to implement Research, Outreach and Education, and Communications programs.

Fellowships

So diving into WSG’s fellowships program, The Fellowships program supports the overall Washington Sea Grant mission by providing graduate and undergraduate opportunities in Coastal Science, Management and Policy. The overall vision of the Fellowships program is to build a diverse ocean workforce. And we operate towards that mission of increasing the number and diversity of higher education graduates who are well equipped to help address the most pressing coastal and ocean issues facing Washington and the country as a whole.

We'd like to see this vision and mission reflected in our scholars. And the more that you can show how your application aligns with our vision, mission and goals of the fellowships program specifically, as well as the overall WSG mission, the more competitive your application will be. If you're awarded any one of these fellowships will be considered an a Washington Sea Grant fellow, potentially connecting you with our many partners, WSG staff, and broad network of past and current fellows and including many professional development opportunities and exposure to the research and outreach that seagrant conducts
