Palace of Fine Arts

The Palace of Fine Arts is 635 acres with more than 1,500 sculptures from artists all over the world, from Roman to Renaissance to modern.

In the palace there are paths and gardens and a lake.

�It was the location of the 1933�Pacific Fair, celebrating the�opening of the Panama Canal.

What can you do? Take a photo with Yoda, who sits just outside the entrance to the main entrance at Building B.

Visit the lobby of Building B (open weekdays during normal business hours) to see vintage movie memorabilia, including items from the Star Wars series.

Main Post of Presidio

Marks the site of a spanish garrison established in 1776

The main post of presidio is considered the heart of San Francisco.

The big lawn in the center was for drills and parades.

Now there is a visitor center, theatre, inn, transit center, and even a bowling alley

Presidio Go Bus

Operates from 5:45am - 9-30pm on weekdays. �The shuttle runs 2 continues loops for 30 minutes. Crissy Field Route & Presidio Hills Route. �We might take this cool bus or�we might just walk the whole way.

Fort Point

  • Fort Point protected the Golden Gate (exit/entrance to SF) over 150 years since the gold rush
  • Fort point was called the pride of the Pacific and the Gibraltar of the West Coast
  • There is big big cannons in there (cause cannons are cool)
  • In its place was once the Castillo de San Joaquin built by the Spanish
  • Built on the narrowest entrance to the bay.
  • Was used in the civil war to protect against an enemy that never came
  • Golden Gate Bridge was built over it, Fort Point came first
  • In the 1930 the plans for the Golden Gate bridge involved plans for the destruction of fort point but the chief engineer designed an arch which would go over the fort
  • The walls are about 5-7 feet thick

The bridge is 1.7 miles long and takes about an hour to walk from one end to the other (depending on how many stops you take)

-It is the most popular suicide by jumping spot in the world.

-Over 1,200 people have killed themselves jumping off it.

  • Bus 28 carries about 15,000 customers each day, so it can be crowded.

We will rent boats;

either paddle boats or row boats.

The Botanical Gardens is a living museum showcasing about 8,000 different kinds of plants from around the world. It recreates conditions of the

The Haight

A region of SF east of the GG Park

It was a big hippie spot in the ‘60s

Now it is just confused (eg McD’s & Whole Foods)

We meet bus 43 there.

Bus 43

  • We take this bus from �Golden Gate Park to Marina School
  • The route goes along the park, through the Haight, and through the east part of the Presidio.
  • Founded in 1912, Muni is one of America's oldest public transits and carries over 200 million riders per year.

Alcatraz Island

  1. Alcatraz Island is located in the bay, �1.5 miles offshore from San Francisco
