Theses and dissertations are known to be the rich and unique source of information, often the only source of research work that does not find its way into various publication channels. Theses and dissertations remain an un-tapped and under-utilized asset, leading to unnecessary duplication and repetition that, in effect, is the anti-theses of research and wastage of huge resources, both human and financial.

• capture and describe digital material using a submission workflow module, or a variety of programmatic ingest options.

• distribute an organisation’s digital assets over the web through a search and retrieval system.

Operating systems

DSpace software runs on Linux, Solaris, Unix, Ubuntu and Windows. It can also be installed on OS X. Linux is by far the most common OS for DSpace.

INSTALLING DSPACE ON WINDOWS

Download the DSpace software from source Forge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/dspace/) and other prerequisite software. Untar or unzip it and save it in a folder.
