Challenge: Bring an extraterrestrial being to Earth

Specifically, design a rocket that can bring an extraterrestrial life out of the planet’s atmosphere.

Two objectives:

  • The rocket can escape the atmosphere without being destroyed by intense heat
  • The living being survives, meaning there aren’t many temperature fluctuations, radioactive elements, etc.

What is a Flooer?

The Flooer is a prediction of a type of animal that may be on another planet. It is from the book "After Man” where it predicts possible species of animals 50 millions years after human extinction on Earth.

Drawing by Risa

Impact:

  • Helps predict future species and environment
  • Can help us understand what life is in general, not just on Earth
  • It can help develop the concept of artificial life

Solution:

Anti overheating insulation: spray-on foam and cork

Part that stores the Flooer: The flooer will be placed in a sphere lined with xenon, first because of its unreactivity to other elements, and because of its insulating properties.

There will be a 2 foot sheet of lead surrounding the xenon tank to block radiation.

Simulation

I (Isaya) created a simulation where flooer gets on to the rocket. Made with Blender.

Future work:

  • Connect extraterrestrial life to current science
  • Simulate conditions inside the spacecraft to see if it works
  • Deal with Ethical issues
