When you select browse by question & key words you are taken to a list of 14 PHC levers, each of which has a series of questions linked to resources.
You can select any of the 14 PHC levers on this list. The first 4 levers are the strategic levers and with questions and resources relevant to them.
Levers 5-14 are the operational levers and the questions in these levers are also colour coded to show how they relate to the 4 strategic levers.
Note: Take a note of the colours for the strategic levers, they are used consistently through out the workbook!
The next slide shows what happens if you click on lever 1.
Alternatively, you can click on the key words that are linked to sub-topics within the lever.
Note: The difference is when you click on the lever you are taken the top of the specific lever sheet, while clicking on the key word takes you to a specific question in the sheet.
Each sheet is structured the same. At the top of the page a short description of the lever is provided, and a short user guide (INSTRUCTIONS). Section 1. Questions, has a list of 8 key questions which focus on supporting a PHC-oriented approach to adapting GHI and donor funding to national context & needs. Section 2. Global Resources provides a list of key resources relevant to answering those questions. The only difference between the boxes is that for the resources in the blue box a short synopsis is provided, while for the supplemental resource in the red box a one line summary is given and a link.
The next slide shows the remaining two sections of each sheet.

Section 3. NATIONAL RESOURCES, in the white box gives a list of example country level resources that are relevant to answering the key questions under this lever, while the empty gray box allows for documentation of the resources that were identified (the user should input that information). Section 4. CASE STUDIES, provides a list of sample case studies that can be used as learning lessons and example of application of PHC perspective. The gray box provides space for documentation of any new case studies that the user might want to document.
The next slide shows what happens when you click on the blue box in Section 2. Global resources.

For each of the resources a short synopsis is provided to allow for easy comparison. The synopsis includes information about document type, publication date, source, classification, purpose, content, why use it, who should use it, expected outcome, and links for access.

The table of supplemental resources includes a link for access, one line summary of the resource, publication year, and an indication whether the resource is published at the global or regional level.
Note: You can scroll up and down to access the full list of resources, and the back buttons to return to the levers pages.

The next slide will show the structure of the sheets for the operational levers, using models of care as an example.
While the structure of the sheet is similar to the one shown in slide 5, the main difference is that the questions are colour coded to indicate how they relate to the 4 strategic levers. Use the legend at the top right to match the colours.

This sheet shows the list of the 10 operational levers and an explanation of how the actions of those operational levers relate to the strategic theme selected.
Note: The numbers indicate the operational lever as shown in slide 4.

The graphic shows the primary health care theory of change. This includes the PHC component, PHC levers and PHC results.
Note: There is a list of PHC core resources under the graphic that can be accessed to provide general overview.
Note: Only the PHC levers list is linked to the other sheets and allows for the user to browse relevant resources.

3 different use cases are given as an example of how this database can be used. Note that this is just guidance and it is not limiting, there are many other use cases for which the database can be used (please refer to the User Guide Manual . Moreover, these are samples cases and there is no need for the user to edit these. The user is encouraged to document how they have used the database and they can share their experiences as lessons learned with the team (contact emails on last slide).
The next slides shows what happens when you click on use case 1. Development or review of National Health Plan.
This example provides a sample conceptual framework for a National plan and with arrows shows how certain parts of the framework can be linked to key levers. Once the lever is identified the user can use the key questions and resources as outlined in slides 10-13.
The next slides shows use case 2. Planning for GHI grant design. The access the next use case use the button back to Sample use cases tab and click 2.
This example uses the Gavi Full Portfolio Planning process as an example. The FPP Theory of change strategic outcomes are linked to key levers. The user can use the key questions and resources as outlined in slides 10-13.
The next slides shows use case 3. Operationalizing specific grant activities. The access the next use case use the button back to Sample use cases tab and click 3.
This example shows how investment activity lines can be linked to PHC levers. The three examples are supportive supervision, community engagement, diagnosis and TB case finding. The instructions provide an explanation how to use this type of analysis for any activity line. Once the levers relevant to the activity line are identified, the user can use the key questions and resources as outlined in slides 10-13.
