Youth Apprenticeship Model vs. High School Apprenticeship Model

  • Youth Apprenticeships - Programs for youth between the ages of 16-24 combine academic and technical classroom instruction with work experience through an apprenticeship program. It provides the foundation for youth to choose among multiple pathways – to enroll in college, begin full-time employment, or a combination
  • High School Apprenticeships – Designed specifically for students in high school, starting their junior year (age 16 or above), coordinated by the CTE departments within the district, county or specific school
  • Both driven by willingness of employer to hire for the long-term, whereby upon completion of apprenticeship, individual is prepared for a career with a livable wage

Where we are today…

  • New standards for “Teacher’s Aide/Paraprofessional” will soon be submitted to DAS
  • Continuing to seek employers who will participate in the program and actually hire our students
  • In conversations with numerous County Office’s of Education across California to replicate model
  • In conversations with CDE to provide inclusion of “Registered HS Apprenticeships” in addition to pre-apprenticeships on CALPADS and in the CTEIG
