The history of our high-school begins in 1894 when, on the initiative of certain intellectuals of Petrosani, a gymnasium was founded, which used to function in the current location of the Sporting Events School.

A few years later, in 1900, the gymnasium becomes the state high school.

On September 25th 1919, the first high school in the Romanian language opens in this area, whose graduates have become people of prestige in the country.

Throughout the years, the school has gone through a series of changes and has become in turn: joint high school, average joint venture school, general knowledge high school, high school of mathematics-physics.

Finally, in 1977, the high school profile of informatics was approved. Since then the institution has borne the name of The Informatics High school.

“At the age of 100 , not that old school, 75 years of not that old , but challenged high school, Superior High School of the JIU Valley, even of the neighboring counties, among the ones that left the high school, it was left, year by year, by disciples and teachers. Others took their place, taking it – we’re sure of that, not at the celebration – even further. As a proof, we have the ones that left, learnt to gaze the mystery of the decades, and talk to the wise ones”.

TODAY…

Since 1977, the School of Informatics has continued its educational course. The school has developed and improved its material and teaching basis and today it proudly bears the name of The National IT College “Carmen Sylva” Petrosani .

Since the autumn of 2010, as a result of the governmental administrative reforms implemented in education, our highschool’s structure has included the "Carmen Sylva" School, so that, presently, the newly created institution offers children the opportunity of taking pre-school, primary and secondary courses.
