3
Detector construction plans at campus/lab
4
Key roles in ePIC
5
Key non-EIC accomplishments
JLab:Nuclear SIDIS measurements (single- and di-hadron). 11 GeV data taken in 2024.
STAR:
Jet measurements spin pp. Forward Calorimeter system installation and commissioning and calibration.
H1DIS jet measurements with AI/ML unfolding
6
Highlights related to Task 1 & 2(design and simulation)
7
8
UCR-UCLA workshops, led by Barak
Direct result of those workshops is a complete DD4Hep model of all forward calorimeter systems
9
The high-granularity calorimeter insert (HG-CALI)
10
“It maximizes coverage close to the beampipe, while solving challenges arising from the beam-crossing angle and mechanical integration.”
The CALI subsystem is fully integrated in engineering design, project cost & schedule, ePIC collaboration structure, official simulations, etc
12
Calorimeter Insert was first EIC detector designed using SiPM-on-tile technologyNow used in many subdetectors, including all of HCAL endcaps
Measuring the highest-energy jets at EICHigh-granularity design for forward jets
Insert is at the heart of forward HCAL

13
Forward HCAL at EICwill use SiPM-on-tile tech~630k SiPMs (world record!)Under construction!
Zero Degree Calorimeter

S.Paul & M. Arratia NIMA 1060 (2024) 169044Milton et al. arXiv:2406.12877
15
ZDC is ~40 m away from center, highly integrated into accelerator
The HEXPLIT algorithmExploits subcells defined by overlap in staggered design
16
Product over overlapping cells, j, in neighboring layers
Energy in a given subcell, i
S. Paul, M. Arratia, NIMA 1060 (2024) 169044
Define subcells with overlap and assign weights:
Same event before and after HEXPLIT
17
Staggering + HEXPLIT algorithm lead to a factor of 2 improvement in position resolution
Similar improvement over range 10-300 GeV
