List main accomplishments in past 4 years

  • Pioneered proposals and R&D of SiPM-on-tile technology for EIC calorimetry. This technology is now incorporated into the official design of the backward HCAL, forward HCAL, Insert, and ZDC.
  • Led the design of the Insert and ZDC sub-detectors.
  • Carried out the TDR simulations for Inser/ZDC, and forward HCAL.
  • Completed benchtop R&D and prototype construction at UCR, engaging a large number of students in the process.
  • Led several beam tests of prototypes at JLab, BNL, UC Davis Cyclotron, and (planned) BNL NSRL and JLab. Additionally, participated in the ECAL FNAL test. These test involved multiple students.
  • Established new collaborations with UCLA on theory of jets and AI/ML.
  • Established new collaborations with LLNL focused on AI/ML and EIC R&D. Coordinated student summer visits to LLNL.

The high-granularity calorimeter insert (HG-CALI)

10

“It maximizes coverage close to the beampipe, while solving challenges arising from the beam-crossing angle and mechanical integration.”

11 of 53

The CALI subsystem is fully integrated in engineering design, project cost & schedule, ePIC collaboration structure, official simulations, etc
