IMPORTANT FORMS

3 of 64

Student and Parent/Guardian Information & Permission Form

I understand that my child will participate in The Noteables Show Choir for the 2023-2024 school year. I hereby grant permission for my child to attend all events in which the choirs will participate, including but not limited to out-of-town events. I understand that my child will be transported to these events by a school-approved vehicle, i.e. school buses, charter buses, or private transportation.

I also understand that each trip will be chaperoned by parents or directors. The choir will carry a first aid kit, and chaperones may give minor first aid treatment. In the event of an accident, I grant chaperones and director the authority to give a physician permission to administer medical aid to my child. Any special health needs and/or allergies that the teacher should be aware of must be completed on the student’s health form.

In addition, I agree to adhere by the following Code of Conduct:

-I will encourage good sportsmanship by being a positive role model.

-I will try my best to make show choir a positive experience for everyone involved, i.e. participants, directors, other parents, and spectators.

-I will insist that my show choir member treats other members, directors, parents, and spectators with respect.

-I will do my best to understand and appreciate the rules of the performance place.

-I will show support and appreciation for outstanding performances by any and all show choirs.

-I will be a “TEAM” fan, not a “MY CHILD” fan.

-I will help my child learn that success is measured by the development of skills, not only winning or losing.

I also agree to represent my Noteables student(s) at least 8 times on Sunday evenings between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024 at the Tazewell Bingo Center. If I cannot personally attend, I will find someone who is at least 18 years of age and not a current PCHS student to represent my Noteables student(s) at the Tazewell Bingo Center.

-If I have a concern, I will talk to the director, Mrs. Grizzard at the appropriate time and place, i.e. not before, during, or immediately after a performance or rehearsal.

-I will reinforce the school’s drug and alcohol policies and refrain from using alcohol and other drugs before or during performances or at any point on any school-sponsored event.

-I understand that consistent displays or behaviors of poor sportsmanship at rehearsals, meetings, performances, or other events will result in removal from those events; permanent removal will occur, if necessary.

By correctly filling out all of the information below and submitting this form, I agree:

PCHS Extra-Curricular Activities Code

Highlights

  • Refrain from any illegal activities (drugs, alcohol, etc.) in order to stay in The Noteables!
  • If you are caught participating in any illicit activities (including any Extra-Curricular Code violations), you may miss part of the season, half of the season, or be dismissed from The Noteables Show Choir altogether at the discretion of the director.
  • All Noteables students are a reflection of The Noteables Show Choir, the PCHS Music Program, Pekin Community High School, and the Pekin community as a whole. By maintaining a positive example of behavior, attitude, and respect, we will represent our community well wherever we go!

11 of 64

PCHS Extra-Curricular Activities Code

Academic Eligibility

  • In order to participate in The Noteables Show Choir, students must pass at least 5 class with a 60% or higher in the Fall 2023 semester to continue to competition season in the spring (study halls, independent studies, and pass/fail classes do not count).
  • During spring semester 2024, Noteables students must be passing at least 5 classes with a 60% or higher every week (study halls, independent studies, and pass/fail classes do not count) - grades are posted every Thursday afternoon, and Mrs. Grizzard receives an eligibility report every Friday morning for the following week to determine eligibility for the next competition. If students are determined ineligible for multiple consecutive weeks, they may be dismissed from the group altogether at the discretion of the director.

The Noteables Member Goals and Expectations

OVERALL GOAL:

The Noteables is here to provide PCHS students with positive and challenging musical experiences. We aim to develop responsibility and true dedication to an extracurricular activity. As a member of the Noteables, you will gain experience in teamwork, growing musicianship, physical challenges and many exciting performance opportunities with GREAT people.

13 of 64

The Noteables Member Goals and Expectations

EXPECTATIONS:

Rehearsals

• You are expected to be at every rehearsal designated by the director. If you have a conflict with another activity, please talk to the director if you have not already. After 3 unexcused absences (7.5 hours of rehearsal), you will be removed from the group. If you have a question about whether or not an absence will be excused, please talk to the director. Do NOT rely on “what you’ve heard” (i.e…your friend’s absence was excused and you will be gone for the same reason, so you’re assuming yours will be excused too without talking to the director first). Bottom line: I’m willing to be flexible within reason, so please just talk to me!

14 of 64

The Noteables Member Goals and Expectations (continued)

...But what is the difference between excused and unexcused absences?!

Excused Absences

•…have been previously cleared with Mrs. Grizzard at least one week in advance

•…may be medical in nature with a doctor’s note

•…include other school activities that are in season (i.e…Marching Band in the fall, Jazz in the spring, Golf, Football, Cross Country, etc.)

•…are emergency circumstances which, according to the director, constitute sufficient cause to be absent from rehearsal

Unexcused Absences

  • …have NOT been cleared with Mrs. Grizzard prior to the start of rehearsal
  • …include a “non-negotiable” work schedule
  • …involve being “too tired” to practice—sitting out and watching rehearsal, unless otherwise cleared with Mrs. Grizzard, constitutes an unexcused absence
  • …will NOT be excused after the fact unless all efforts have been made to contact the director prior to the start of said rehearsal (i.e…missing a rehearsal without telling the director/having a friend tell the director for you)
  • …fall under the category of excused absences but become excessive, as deemed by the director

15 of 64

The Noteables Member Goals and Expectations

  • Always dress comfortably. Wear clothes and shoes that you can move in! Please follow the school dress code as closely as possible.
  • Bring WATER or a snack if you know you will need sustenance during a long rehearsal.
  • *RESPECT the CHOIR ROOM!!!!!*
  • If we get out of rehearsal early, wait INSIDE the school for your ride.
  • Every rehearsal will have a purpose and goal. Come ready to be productive and WORK (whether it be music, choreography, cardio, stage design, combo, or team-building)
  • Theater Rehearsals- Take care of seating space, stage, and carpeting- - NO FOOD or DRINK in the auditorium!!! Only WATER is allowed.

16 of 64

The Noteables Member Goals and Expectations

Eligibility

  • Academic: Under the PCHS Extra-Curricular Activities Code, you MUST be passing 5 of your academic classes at all times. If not, you will dismissed from performing with the group during competitions. If you are ineligible to compete for 3 weeks, consecutively or non-consecutively, you will be dismissed from the group altogether at the discretion of the director.
  • Behavior: The director has every authority to remove a member from rehearsal, performance, or from the group altogether if certain respectful behaviors are being ignored or abused (this includes the use of cell phones). This includes any Extra Curricular Activities Code violations. In the case of removal from these privileges, other members may have the opportunity to stand in place of the removed member.
  • Respect each other! Come to EVERY rehearsal, performance, and competition ready to work TOGETHER with your fellow Noteables! Work to resolve any conflicts respectfully and quickly, and then move on. Personal conflicts amongst members (“drama”) will not be tolerated in rehearsals, performances, or competitions, and may constitute dismissal from the group at the director’s discretion.

17 of 64

The Noteables Member Goals and Expectations

Eligibility

  • Uniformity: The overall goal of The Noteables Show Choir is to present ourselves as professionally as possible while staying as uniform as possible (just like wearing a jersey/team uniform for a sports team in which you participate). Therefore, all members must present themselves as cleanly as possible with no distracting elements present while on stage. The definition of "distracting elements" is up to the discretion of the Director only; if you have any questions, talk with Mrs. Grizzard directly and in person at least two weeks before each performance; the Director reserves the right to dismiss any Noteables member (singer/dancer, combo, or stage crew member) from any performance because of elements that are not part of the Noteables costume. Due to the uniform nature of show choir performances, any tattoos that will show on stage must be covered up completely with make-up (no bandages), and visible piercings must be removed. If you are considering getting a tattoo or visible piercing, please wait until our season is over in April! Please speak with Mrs. Grizzard directly if you have any questions.

18 of 64

The Noteables Member Goals and Expectations

  • Financial Commitment-If, for any reason, you are dismissed from being a part of The Noteables, you will still be responsible for taking care of your 2023-2024 fees in full by the deadline (November 1, 2023).

Group Responsibility

  • YOU are accountable for YOUR actions! – Look out for each other in and outside of rehearsal.
  • USE YOUR TIME WISELY!- homework, practice time, rehearsal time, sectional time, etc.
  • The director leaving the room or not being in sight does not mean that you can behave in a less respectful or safe manner.
  • Support and encourage ALL members and music ensembles! We are all ONE, GREAT TEAM!

24 of 64

Combo Costumes

Combo members should provide their own black dress pants and black dress shoes:

Dress Pants should be pants that are appropriate length (to ankle; no capri length or shorts) and fit well (not too tight or too loose). Think of pants that you would wear as part of a professional outfit in which to interview for a job or scholarship.

Dress Shoes should be all black and in good condition (not worn out). Don’t plan on wearing extremely high heels if you can’t stand in them for long periods of time (on competition days, you will likely be wearing these shoes for a few hours at a time, often standing a lot). Shoes should be comfortable and easy to walk and play in!

25 of 64

Stage Crew Costumes

Stage Crew members should provide their own black pants and black shoes:

Black Pants should be pants that are appropriate length (to ankle; no capri length or shorts) and fit well (not too tight or too loose). Black jeans/jeggings work well, as you will likely need to move around a lot and quickly throughout the show and should not be hampered by ill-fitting pants.

Black Shoes should be all black and in good condition (not worn out). They should be comfortable and allow you to move around safely and quickly throughout the show. ENTIRELY black Converse or other tennis shoes work well!

ELECTRONIC PAYMENT

Skyward is getting an update over the summer, and will be unavailable for the entire month of June. When online registration opens, you will be able to pay your Noteables fee electronically.

If paying in person at the Dragon Store, please make checks out to Pekin Community High School with your student’s name(s) in the Memo line so we can keep track of all fees (cash is also accepted; please send a note with your student’s name(s) with it to keep track of your fees). Thank you!

If you encounter a financial situation that may prevent your student from participating in Noteables, please complete a scholarship form. We want to ensure that ALL students get to participate in this season! Scholarship recipients will be determined by Mrs. Grizzard and the PCHS Choral Parents Organization Board by September 1, 2023 for either full or partial scholarships.

Fundraisers

28 of 64

Bingo!

In order to offset the cost for a competitive show choir program, we participate in a Bingo fundraiser at the East Peoria Bingo Hall.

Since Bingo is a form of gambling, current PCHS students are not allowed to help with this fundraiser, even if they are 18 years old. This one is for the parents!

Each Noteables student is responsible for 8 slots of Bingo. You can go yourself 8 different times, or you can bring a friend 4 times, or you can bring 3 people with you twice to fill these 8 slots, for example.

Bingo happens every week on Sunday evenings, year round. This is one of our largest fundraisers for the year! It helps to cover the costs of:

-Remaining costume costs (alterations, etc.)

-Choreography

-Set design & building materials

-Combo necessities (instrument parts, mics, etc.)

-Unforseen costs throughout the season (student meals, etc.)

ADULTS: Please use the following link to sign up to work Bingo: www.signupgenius.com and search for “pchsfestivalfundraiser@yahoo.com” OR e-mail pchsfestivalfundraiser@yahoo.com with any questions

Students: sell all 6 tickets for each car wash and turn in the money to Mrs. Grizzard at each one!

Preview Night

Preview Night is the first time that we get to reveal The Noteables Show Choir Competition Show 2024. Not only is it a GREAT chance to perform for the public for the first time, it is a great fundraiser!

This year’s Preview Nights will be held on Friday, January 19th and Saturday, January 20th. Dinner will be served at 5:30 PM in the PCHS Cafeteria, and the show will begin at 7:00 PM in the F.M. Peterson Theater.

What is the PCHS Choral Parents Organization?

The PCHS Choral Parents Organization is composed of parents from all PCHS choral groups. The organization’s role is to provide support to the PCHS choirs and the director through fundraising and volunteer efforts.

All parents & guardians of choral students are automatically members of the PCHS Choral Parents Organization. We strongly encourage all choral parents' participation in our activities. Our support of the choir program is essential for our students to have the best music education possible. We look forward to having all parents actively participating in our group.
